Attaching rigging
« on: October 26, 2007, 07:55:46 pm »

I'm restoring an old model yacht and have got to the rigging stage. I've obtained some cotton line that looks authentic but I'm not sure how to go about fastening it. Knots are too large and clumsy, whereas splicing is going to be pretty much impossible (although I'm sure someone would do it!)

Any advice, please?

Thanks

Make a loop of the rigging line through the attachment, superglue the loop together, then bind with thinner rigging cord, several loops around the area where you superglued, then touch the ends of the binding with superglue to stop it unravelling. Finally when all is done, coat with varnish to protect the glue.

Works for me, I have a schooner that I used this method on over 5 years ago and no signs of any rigging giving way.
