It must have been amazing seeing these contraptions in the flesh.

However, the French pre dreadnoughts and armoured cruisers were rather top heavy and a small model would be pretty unstable at that size.

Hi Colin,
At that scale there's unlikely to be any significant difference with any of them. Don't forget that some of us have practiced with the 1/144 Flowers! Dreadnought, Szent Istvan (ala Gingyer) are both about 1.1lbs at 1/350 while Danton or Voltaire are marginally less but being 10% shorter could be more stable being slightly wider but with the same (1.5mm less to be honest) draft as Szent Istvan. Hopefully, should something go ahead, nothing like this should happen to anyone! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeiNcf7JtCM

Hi Gingyer, so you're dragging in the poor old Austro-Hungarian Empire? Does that give me permission to include Les Francaises?

I'd check the likely weight of the kit first. Gross displacement at 1:350 is about 18-20oz so by the time you take out  the hardware and a bit of ballast you'd need to see how much you've actually got to play with! I know with the 1:144 Flower that, for example, I took the casing off the Rx. and carved a rather large hole in the underside of the bridge construction. But it worked, so an 18-20" Battleship could be "Interesting".

Back in the 70's there were articles in Model Boats with conversions of the Airfix liners although they were not R/C. I have actually got a stash of these old liner kits which I might build as R/C versions some day.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If anyone is considering the Lutzow or Derfflinger by Takon and shown by both e-models and Hannants at 1/350. Please note that e-models have confirmed that they're 1/700! I'm awaiting an e-mail from Hannants confirming it.
Meanwhile, Hannants show Lord Nelson, Agamemnon, Seydlitz, plus a couple of early Chinese warships Ting Yuen and Chen Yuen, plus Tsarevitch from Russia and Mikasa from Japan. Also, for the really adventurous, Mclass and Kclass subs plus Surcouf!

Also have to mention that apart from being 1/700 scale they are the 2013 edition of the Flyhawk kits minus the big etched brass sheet which has all the railings on. They are good kits but I was under the impression that they would be Takom’s own work.

I've got the HobbyBoss Agamemnon on it's way. £49 including p/e stuff. About 15inches/1lb so worth trying. Slow and old like me!  :-))

Agamemnon arrived. Rather good kit with zero flash and some nice etch stuff.

Got mine today too!
Except I’ve gone for the Russian predreadnought Oriol by Zvezda.
Not a bad kit but has a few minor bits of flash. Plenty of access using the kit parts though. Got some prop shafts and props on the way too!
