Jutland Memorial Medal
« on: February 14, 2022, 09:17:44 pm »

Found this piece of interesting history on eBay the other day and at a reasonable price. Considering that modellers like myself and Geoff like to create WW1 era warships we like to embellish the stands of our models with something from the era. Geoff has some 1916 pennies on his Invincible’s stand and I will be adding this memorial medal to mine.
Does anyone else add items to their stands to help tell the story of the ship in question?

Is this one of Colin Vass's boats?

I purchased a copy of the medal from the Jutland exhibition on Portsmouth in 2016 and imbedded it in Iron Duke's stand (along with the Gold Medal from the 2016 ME exhibition). I'm not sure the medal is entirely appropriate for Invincible because she didn't survive the battle!

I do have a number of coins 1908, 1914 and 1916 on Invincible's stand together with a commemorative coin which is still available (picture to follow) plus obviously the name and a couple of RN Ensigns and a small picture of the crest and Horace Hood who was rear admiral at Jutland.

There is also a few paragraphs near the stern about the ship and model - no room for anything else besides its would get too cluttered!

Personally I think it just adds some additional interest to the display.

Also with Iron Duke and Invincible I used frames at the bow and stern to support the model which I think adds further interest.

Cheers
