Hi all,My names Michael, I joined the forum a while back but only recently started building.I have got myself a Krick WSP47 police launch and have a question. The manual states "All parts for the inside of the hull should be ready now. Please varnish  them 2 to 3 times and sand between each application so that they are water  proofed. Also the deck should be varnished on the underside."This is prior to using UHU Acrylit Plus to bond the parts to the ABS hull. This doesn't sit right with me, surely the bond to a varnished surface would be pretty weak?Any help appreciated.

Greetings Michael,

Welcome to the Mayhem!

" varnished on the underside.....  prior to using UHU Acrylit Plus to bond the parts to the ABS hull"

No, that doesn't sound right o me either! .... something lost in translation I guess!
NB: Also test whatever varnish you choose, doesn't affect the ABS!

The Acrylit plus bonds to a large range of materials as well as the ABS. If the varnish has been thinned it should have soaked into the surface of the ply and have a good bond. The UHU will then bond to the varnish. If you don't trust it to do this then sand off the varnish where the deck bonds to the hull.

Possibly as Prior is sometimes used instead of previously

previously using UHU Acrylit Plus to bond the parts to the ABS hull"  could fit

Thanks for the input all.

The only parts from the manual were in quotation marks.

Considering not varnishing them at all, if I have water in the hull there are bigger issues than the fittings getting wet!

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

I've used the UHU Acrylit when making my rudder and it's worked well.

Decided not to go ahead with the varnishing. Will seal the underside of the deck.

Has anyone on the forum built this kit before? Got some questions I'd like to ask.
Couldn't find anything when searching.
