RC crystal socket?
« on: October 28, 2007, 01:07:55 am »

Hi
does anyone know where I can get hold of a pcb mounting 2 pin socket, as used in radio receivers/transmitters, the one that the crystal plugs into?
I have a u/s one & need a replacement but I'm jiggered if I can find them anywhere on the net. :'(

Thanks, Andy

Thanks for the suggestion anyway O0

Do a 'Google' on crystal extension lead.
I did and came up with: https://demonpowerproducts.co.uk/product_info.php?language=en&currency=GBP&products_id=89
'Action' gets a mention too.....

Got there just after you, Wom - but there's a minimum order quantity of 10. That makes one crystal holder £5.10+VAT, with nine spares for a rainy day.....
Cheaper to buy a new receiver at that rate!
I'll search Craig's old junque boxes for one but I haven't much hope, unless.......... Leave it with me, Andy.

Agreed Monsigneur Jaquet,

But too many could be argued to be better than too few

Could be a sign of the times.  Maplin used to do them, as did several other suppliers, but it looks like demand has fallen below the level where a home builder supplier can be bothered to stock them.  So home builders can no longer develop, or even build, anything that uses a crystal holder.  Another door closes on the fingers of those who would be different.
