Passport Woes
« on: April 26, 2022, 01:27:28 pm »

Folks...if you're planning a holiday in the EU please check your passport validity carefully.  Some UK passports have extra months added when they are renewed so the expiry date might be, say 10 years and 8 months from the issue date.  The EU are not recognising these extra months and only accept a passport as valid for 10 years from the issue date.  They also require a passport to be valid for 3 months after your planned return, within that 10 year period.  Example a passport issued in July 2012 with an expiry of March 2023 is not acceptable for travel in June 2022 as the 10 year anniversary of its issue is July 2022 which is within 3 months of the travel date even though the expiry date isn't for another 8 months.

Please be careful as we've just been caught out >>:-( <*< <:( .  Fortunately we've not lost out as we found out in time to rearrange things but still a pain when you've been looking forward to a break.

Best to check this out, there was an article on the BBC online news this morning that the EU Commision are saying that those stopping people from travelling to some EU countries were wrong. Their comment was that there should be leeway in interpreting these rules as long as it was issued within the last 10 years.

There has been quite a lot about this in the media and news recently and warnings on the travel sites.

Nothing new. You should all ways check the entry requirments of the country you are traveling to. It has all ways been like that.

Makes a joke of the validation of a ten year passport.

This really isn't news.

For some time passports have only been issued for 10 years from the date of issue. The old extra if you renewed early has gone.

As an aside the EU minimum 3 months passport life remaining is half the 6 months that various other countries demand.
