Submarine weekend Sheringham
« on: May 16, 2022, 02:05:14 pm »

Hello submariners , would anyone be interested in attending a submarine weekend at the model boating lake in Sheringham on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast , if so please PM me with suitable dates that will appeal to you , Sheringham is widely regarded as one if not the best seaside towns in Norfolk so plenty for the executive officer to do while you patrol the recently cleaned crystal clear pond , it is not the biggest pond around but car parking is 10 feet from the pond . I will endeavour to make this an annual event if there is sufficient interest
Very best regards Donuts

Urgent , change of date , after consultation with various Submariners the weekend event will now be held on 30th/31st of July 2022 and will be a permanent fixture untill further notice , This date is when a similar event used to organised by my old club in Norwich .
I have scoured the website and Facebook pages and cannot find any mention of the club supporting this event so I have decided to resurrect it . In the past the event was always well attended by Submariners nationally , some European Submariners also attended , sorry for such short notice but I have untill now not had any response from my old club so I have had to grasp the nettle so to speak , I hope you are all well and look forward to seeing you at sunny Sheringham

He is indeed! (Hi Fred!)
Very good to see a much needed sub event for 2022. (Paul is, I think, doing other things and Norwich MBC seems very quiet on events this year??) (The sub weekends there were excellent.)
Would it be OK if I put the details up on the Association of Model Submariners sites?
Just a little thing - is the pond freshwater - I see the sea glimmering attractively in the background to the photos?
Thanks again for organizing.

Hello fellow sundodgers , Sheringham pond is indeed freshwater , recently cleaned out and refilled , Paul Cook is a very good friend and mentor , there are no better mates than him , yes I was the chairman of the Norwich club for 15 years , I had to leave the hobby due to illness and tried to rejoin two years ago , due to reasons not known to me , I am not allowed to rejoin , .The club does not appear to be involved in organising any events so I thought I would resurrect the very popular July event , please support if you can

Sheringham model boat pond has free parking on the cliff road 10 feet from the pond , there is a turning / drop off area  at the top of the pond for heavy models  , chargeable car parking is available about 200 yards away on a private site , public toilets and cafés are available also about 200 yards away , the town itself is very popular with excellent facilities  , café s and pubs  . As with all seaside parking it is better to get there early
Looking forward to seeing  you all  and renew old friendships and hopefully make some new ones

With just a week to go before the submarine meeting a quick update , the local council have been very supportive and have removed some pond weed that has taken advantage of the recent 'warm ' weather and topped up the pond to its maximum level . Some chemicals have been added to restrict weed growth and colour the water a little , The local RNLI branch are supporting the meeting and there will be some collection boxes there which hopefully will encourage spectators to donate to this very worthy cause , to find the pond follow the Seafront signs , head towards the very distinctive war memorial on a large circular garden area , take the second exit to the Seafront , turn left at the junction and the pond is 200 metres up the road , I am looking forward to seeing you all once again

A great big thank you to all the submariners that attended this inaugural event , Members of the public , the RNLI and U3A were very complimentary , some , and there were many , had a go at sailing a Crocodile  ,a diving Duck and indeed a model submarine thanks to Paul a consummate ambassador for the hobby ,I must thank the officers of North Norfolk Council for their hard work in making sure that the pond is maintained to the highest of standards  and their extremely Pro active  support , such was the success of the event that I will organise another event for the last weekend in July 2023 , I hope to see you all again next year at beautiful Sheringham
Regards and best wishes

From Facebook ...

This is an original Darnell "P" Porpoise class boat .
Although modified to give it an "O' Oberon class look..
