Grupner 1/20th scale figures
« on: May 25, 2022, 05:30:56 pm »

Hi All

Been looking for Grupner 1/20th scale crew figures for my Johann Fidi. Tried all the usual stockiest, but no luck so far. Does anyone know of a stockist in the UK that might have them. I know I can get them in Europe, but the postage to the UK is so high.

Any help appreciated. :-))

Thanks

Have a look at the posts by David - dry dock 3D, see if he can make some for you.
Worth a shout if you get stuck.

Ray.

nb: he has a flyer (poster) on the mayhem weekend blog.

Hi,if you're willing to paint the figure, this one would work too:
 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Revell-00755-Doctor-Multi-Colour/dp/B077CY9D4K/ref=sr_1_1?crid=PL7P5MORDRKK&keywords=Revell+00755+Doctor%2C+Multi+Colour&qid=1653515538&sprefix=revell+00755+doctor+multi+colour+%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-1
or search Amazon UK (or somehwere else) for "Revell 00755 Doctor, Multi Colour"
Similar size but a bit thinner than Graupner crew (which isn't the worst on the Fidi).
Best,Joerg

Hi Joerg

Thanks for the information.

Out of stock on Amazon, but found one elsewhere. You are right, could look ok with a re-paint.

Much appreciated :-))

As well as DRYDOCK3D there are a couple of other 3d vendors with excellent RNLI lifeboat figures at various scales, or will print to your spec. Just search for lifeboat figures.

Hi,
depending on what you plan (fully clothing for bad weather or 'normal' clothing) RNLI crew people may be usable, but it's hard to find, because of scale and helmets. Allthough the german lifeboat crews also have helmets they are quite different.  Nothing to judge as there is a huge difference in the background of sea, coast, funding, amout of ships and amount of volunteers.

I've added a photo where you can see the revell figure, still lacking decals. On board of the WILMA SIKORSKI is a 'pit-crew member' I found on a fleamarket.

When building the pontton I started to stick neodym magnets under the deck on reasonable positions. The figures got the opposite magnet between the feet or in the shoes, depending on the figure. Usually I mount a thin 0.5mm polystyrol sheet under the shoes, glue the magnet and then pain everything between the shoes in the floor colour they will stand on.

That way I have a huge variability wher to place the figures. Long term I plan a sunny weather set and a 'not so nice' weather set.
Best, Joerg

Hi Joerg

Thanks for the information and photos. The revell figure looks great as you have painted him. That will do for me. Looks totally different when painted. Great photos, love the boat.

Thanks again for the help and advice. It is appreciated. :-))

Best wishes

Joerg, your idea of using magnets to position the figures is a great idea and definitely one for the 'good ideas' book.
Many thanks for posting that up.  :-)

I started with brass sticks, but neodym magnets are vlear better, even if visible between the shoes. Usually you're looking at it at least from 1m away so it isn't really visible. But for my pontoon with alltogether more than 30 magnets (on pontoon and on the land part) I may put a warning for people waering a cardiac pacemaker.J
There is one more good use. If you have a boat which might get out of balance when having the 'heavy' connectors of the accus/batteries on the wrong side, you can just place a figure on the opposite site and the boat is straight again.

Happy To Help if I can.  I will have a huge selection at Model Boat Mayhem this weekend.

Another builder who has the same boat as you purchased these from me and painted them the correct colours.
I can reprint a set at 1/20 scale
