Battery Question
« on: October 31, 2007, 04:49:12 pm »

Hi folks, just a quick question. I have been using until now 9.6v ni-cads but have upgraded to a 12v lead acid house alarm battery which will power my motor a bit more realistically!! Can i use any battery charger like a ni-cad one or do i have to use a specific one for a lead acid battery?
cheers Ian  :)

You need one that will charge Lead acid or both. This site might help you. O0

Does this also apply to the YUASA gell cells normally used in house alarms?

Got my charger from Model Power, charges my Yuasa 12volt very well, about 2 hours or less depending on how flat they are.

£14.99 i think.

Cheers everyone, there used to be dire warnings on YUASAS' batteries, I think they had to be charged with a constant
VOLTAGE as opposed to constant CURRENT.  Standard Lead/Acid charger was no good, thats why I was checking.

Yuasa's website gives information on how to charge the batteries. Main thing is do not charge them inverted. You only need to charge on constant voltage in float charge applications when the battery is spending most of its life on trickle charge. You can't use a standard car charger as it is too fierce for a VRLA.
