I wrote to George telling him of the interest in his boats on the forum.
This is what George wrote back. Such a shame whoever bought the moulds never used them.

Here is George’s reply:

Hi Alan, thank you for the link. That is very interesting.

Unfortunately I sold off all the moulds and parts for making the boats many years ago, and cannot for the life of me remember who to. I do not think they ever used them particularly afterwards though.

It is a shame we did not get the interest at the time, otherwise we might have still been making them. However they became commercially unviable so we moved onto cars and we no longer have the equipment to make them even if we wanted to.

Regards George

Looking at the kit pictures above I am surprised at the kit prices. I have the 2007/8 Model Boats Mag reviews for both the Fishing Boat and the Tug which states that the kits were £75 including the motor and £55 without plus £6 postage. Whilst I cannot read the price of the tug kit in the picture the others are much cheaper.

It really is a pity that they are not still available.

I had not realised that there were so many other kits in the range.

Prices shown were probably 'Show' prices to get rid of stock.
Words from Joni Mitchels 'Big Yellow Taxi' spring to mind.

Alan.

Mountfleet  Models have the moulds for the figures, tried for over a year to get a Lifeboat figure
       without success.

It’s a pity they didn’t buy the boat moulds as well. At least they would have produced some.

Problem is, vac forming (wrong term) moulds/formers are cheap to produce and in the event of a business closing down can be considered as skip fodder. Wonder what's happened to some 'Big' manufacturers non current model moulds? Asset strippers want a fast return and one mans cream is another mans mold.

Just found this thread, it was 2012 when I first saw this beautiful model from GT and I remember contact Mr Turner but he told me that it was OOP. So I searched eBay with no luck. It took me seven years to find one at eBay and finally got it. Still haven't build it but I will some day. George told me at the time that someone else could take the moulds and release it but apparently this didn't happened.
