Mini table circular saw
« on: November 03, 2022, 11:45:18 am »

As there are so many mini table saws around it's difficult to choose, so, what do others have, I have limited space, I'm thinking of the one advertise for model makers, but the reviews arnt fantastic, so I'm looking to see what other modellers are using,

What do you want to use it for?

For cutting and separating planks I used a regular contractor saw with a 9 inch blade. This can also be done with a band saw, possibly more easily.
For cutting very thin ply, I used a 10 inch bandsaw but a 9 inch would do it. Despite what some people think, it is easy to cut straight cuts on a band saw.

I do have a set of mincrafti tools, including a mini tablesaw. I bought the set second hand because I thought I really really needed the tablesaw. To be honest the mini-tablesaw was not that useful for me, cutting wood thicker than about 3mm and the motor had a tendency to sieze. There was also a mini jigsaw which has never been used.

For the price of a Proxxon tablesaw, you could buy a small bandsaw, and a model.

I think that no one will argue that the Byrnes machine from  USA is not the ultimate, a beautiful machine but last time I looked it cost an arm and a leg and that was before duty and carriage charges went through the roof . I settled for the German Bohler small machine. Very solid , made of cast aluminium . It has a DC motor so needs a power supply transformer/ regulator . I was lucky to find one, old stock cheap on eBay and bought a power supply from Germany .
This was because , as you , I was not enamoured by the flimsy cheap Chinese rubbish which seemed to abound as the alternative. The Bohler is not the most powerful saw but for my modelling purposes it serves me well

Thanks for your reply, the purpose of buying one is for cutting the ply for the model builds so really thickness could change probably no more than 3 _ 4mm, and to achieve better cuts 90 degrees etc, that I can't do at the moment.
