Battery fittings
« on: November 30, 2022, 01:19:28 pm »

Hi chaps, I have an Engel submarine which I would like to add some led light to. Now the problem with Engel subs is that the WTC is held down by a number of both fittings, which I find a pain to keep undoing and revealing etc. so my question is what is the best way to get battery power from the lower hull to the upper hull which allows for the WTC to remain sealed yet allows easy connection for power to the led lights. Thanks

Terry, I used cables that had sealed ends with o-ring seals. The connectors threaded together. The wires were encased in a sleeve that is molded to the connector. To pass the wire sleeve thru the bulkhead, or WTC deck, I used a cable seal. These have a pipe thread, or sealing nut and washer, and use a compression nut that seals against the wire sleeve.
A simpler alternative is to use single wires and compression fittings. Make sure that the wire ends are seals as the pressure can, and will , force H2O up the insulation of the wire and into the pressure hull.

Hi

As we are talking about 3v max for LED's why not just put the battery out into the wet side of the WTC? the same as the main battery in the old OTW boats.

That's all right, Mr Ryan. My Morse is so rusty, I could be sending him dimensions on Playmate of the Month.
