Fletcher Speed Boat
« on: December 10, 2022, 05:18:58 pm »

Don't know if anyone can help but looking for.

Fletcher Boats model Speed boat hull, kit plans. Full size was about Circa 1972.
V hull with straight transom and fairly long hull angle to bow. Normally Mercury or Evinrude outboard motor.

We owed one of these full size and I learned to ski behind it in my early teens. (those were the days)

I believe there was a kit floating on Ebay a few months ago but missed it.

Need it to be about 18 to 24 " long but anything with this type of model might be useful.

Project I am working on anything would be helpful.

Please let me know.

Bob

( Was it Fletcher or Glastron speed boats used in the James Bond film, Live and Let Die? - 1973 )

Model that springs to mind is the very rare 1970's Arrow Models, 'Fletcher Arrowbolt 21' kit -
so rare its difficult to find even an image - pic below was on the kits box and appeared in adverts in the modeling press way back.
Description taken from an ebay advert - 37" R/C speed boat for 2 channel radio controlled model for engines up to .60 cu ins.
plastic, metal & Fiberglass construction. Scale 37" Long.

Martin I recall Miller producing a similar 'scale' ski boat?? - again it would be a very rare beastie to track down.
Aeronaut produce nice open ski launch model kits with working outboard motors.

Oh yes, a fabulous kit! I built one as a demo model for Super Models in Derby at the time, and Roger powered it with a .45. It went like STINK!

Most impressive, as a kit and a finished model, but expensive, and I think that was the only kit that Arrow produced, wasn't it?

Photo above is of the other model boat kit (Hi KitS) produced by Arrow Models the larger Fletcher 'Arrowshaft' -
link below to members of KLMBC running one powered, or rather 'over' powered, by an SC61 on the big pond at Fleetwood.

Tony's model exhibits all the classic deep vee tendencies - ok in a straight line, but forget it on the corners,
particular model fitted with the original kits cast zip strut/out drive prop set-up has a huge turning circle and barrel rolls if cornered tightly.

I have been updated by my Sister on this.
Apparently, this we think, was a Fletcher Microplus at either a 14' or 16'
Things looked bigger when you were small L.O.L

Picture attached with us at Hunstanton about 1971 as you can see great fun
and the norm to fly instead of plane on the water.

As a reference in the Bond Movies they uses Glastron Boats from Texas however I believe there was a close
tie with Fletcher. I also believe that the original moulds for Fletcher were all destroyed for some reason and
the name has had more than one owner. ??

Pictures, Plans, Hull anything would be helpful and thank you for post replies so far.

We had a Fletcher Arrow in the family when I was younger. It started off with a 40 horse Evinrude taken from a previous wooden speedboat but was then replaced by a 70 horse Volvo Penta. Small capacity compared with some of todays motors but on the Fletcher it gave good performance.

We used to trailer it to the Cotswold Motor Boat Racing Club at Fairford and also had it based at Wells-Next-The-Sea where we used to use it at Wells and Blakeney. Very happy days!

Blimey, some serious air there! I bet that came down with a thud!

Funny enough the speed it went it never landed where it took off from.

But yes a thud was felt but then another was on the way, you did not have time to worry.

Brilliant fun, went to Blakeney a few times as well mostly gravel beach as I remember, crikey my memory
is returning. LoL

Yes, your memory is spot on. No slipway and had to launch over the gravel. My girlfriend, now wife, wasn't very happy with me there once. As you know outboards at full chat go through fuel like there's no tomorrow and I ran out. Fortunately it was in that sheltered area before the open sea and I just jumped over the side and towed the boat back to the launch site. I wasn't worried though, the joys of being young!

And in wooing young ladies, I thought it was only the car that ran out of fuel   ;)
