Im having a bit of a moulding interest for a part i want, but, it seems the catylist for my rubber mould has gone walk a bouts, but i do have some laminating catylist so wondering will it work to make my rubber mould ?????

Hi, All
Another question regarding my molding of a few scale lights, all the molding stuff has arrived but i now have a bad vibe regarding my little masters ive made up, i made them from plasticine,im a little concerned the rubber molding will attack the plasticene. if this is a non starter whats the recommended stuff to use, the size of each one is 12mm long 7mm wide and 10mm thick...

Hi Trucker, silicone cures without heat, I have never used plasticene for a master, basically you cannot get the sharp detail I require. For nav lights I get a length of perspex from the plastics firm that I use, to the diameter I require and turn them off in the lathe. failing that I used a silicone mould and clear casting resin. Make far more that you require because when you go back to use it again it will have gone off. It is a shame that you have to buy the minimum quantity and even that is too much for the task in hand. nemesis

Thank you for your wise wisdom nemesis. im glad i just didnt plough into this, it probably all would have gone to land fill, my project for the molding is a hand full of small lights around the bridge to illuminate the deck work area, plan is to embed a LED into the clear resin and have these working.
