Yamato build update  the first lot of photos was to show the box etc which was first class also had a lovely flower  and other goodie's in it very nice touch, they also show you the start of the build and the Lengh of the build it does get bigger as the build goes ones far I have been getting the parts out for the build of the hull which I have never done before thats why I'm taking my time the thickness of the wood is 6mm/4mm and you can see the one miss cut which I had to glue together and held together with clips for 3 dayside to the cold not taking any chance's in the staying together the next lot of photo's is most of the bits to build the hull I have to manuals the first in English  I'm looking at it for help as it was from a mag that sold the model in monthly parts I found it on line and started to print it out for help thats alot of ink jets, but the main manuals I'm going by is the manual that came with the kit I got the translator now on my phone  and I that a photo of the stages and in translate into English what a great help so far its taken me 2 weeks to get this far and not glue anything as of yet just cutting outa bit of sanding and placing the bits as per the manual so here goes a few more photos.

Looks like a quality kit.  Going to follow your build with interest.  Are you building it static or converting it to RC?

Hi Ralph ever since I was looking at it on the Woody Joe site in Japan I was thinking about it  ,it's got 4 props I may email Japan and ask I think I would need a lot of help  with the convert at the moment my wife doesn't like it and call,s it a killer because we were all in the R.N I was for 12 yrs it's because of the  world  war 2.

Think if I was converting it to RC I'd only power 2 props and leave the others as free turning dummies,or maybe not fit them at all.  Maybe a couple of 380 or 400 size low drain motors would work or perhaps small brushless motors, but I don't know enough about them to suggest anything. Weight/stability might be an issue if the superstructure is 4 and 6mm ply as well.

these photos are showing the fitting of the parts they are just sitting in place none are fixed with glue etc  been to cold in the workshop to use wood glue ,I dont want the frames to fall of when touch or moved it costs to much for this model and I will not rush and it wil get done first class well to my best standards like or better than my other build, hoping you can follow ok
its near the end of the frame for the hull.

The next set of photo's a few more bits to cut out  and all the paints and glues for the whole boat, all the paints ate Tamiya  also the spray paints  the makers in Japan said its the best paints to use for the wood etc,

Here we go onto the first of putting together this wonderful model the first parts to be glue d together is the base of the Hull using Javis Aliphatic Resin Wood Glue
put the glue on one side only and joined the two parts together clean up any glue that is showing and when I was happy all is level all ways I put tap over both sides to keep
the two parts together and used lead bits in the tubs to keeps together  and not to move.I will not touch it for 24hrs to 48 hrs to really set due to the weather.

After 30+ hrs I had a look at my new baby to see if it had taken the gluing well good news the bound between the two parts of the bottom of the hull
have bounded great ,no need to rush the job, the next lot of photos are more on the fixing of more parts and the first two are showing the fix hull in place and can be moved, then it was onto fixing the port/stbd sides to hold the ribs I took my time over this and over a few hours making sure all parts were sanded and filed down for a good fit.

After another 24 hrs of fixing and letting them dry hard here are the next set of ribs to be clean up etc and glued into place making sure they are all up right and level
as I have said I'm not rushing putting it together ,I just want to enjoy the making and get it right,( been looking at the build from 6 yrs ago that was sold from a magazine
which you get a few parts  every mth) the hull was in 4 parts and you get some ribs ie 4 put them together also some metal parts put them together,no no  not for me.
this way is the best way of building a boat from wood from the hull upward, hoping you are enjoying the build I'm trying my best with the photos.
Using a toothpick with some of the gluing not to much messing.

There's no "right" speed to build a model.  Only you can decide how to get the maximum pleasure from doing it, and after all, that's the whole point, isn't it?   :-))

Looks like you will end up with a nice straight, square hull with the care you are taking, which is not always a given on a hull this size.  Should be an impressive sight when she is finished!

Many thanks to all who have sent in there views of my build  have taken everyone onboard so many many thanks and so glad that you like what I'm doing,
I'm into my 4th week of building and I spend only 2 hrs each day in the boatyard my workshop years ago when I was building and sailing  I use to live in the workshop
most of the day  but after nearly 10 yrs of not doing any I'm not going to rush doing this lovely model.
Thanks to you all for your support.   wallace

Another follow up of the building of the hull near the end not not rushing so after these parts which are getting glued and put into place and left to go off for 24 hrs
only another 4 rib supports to go into place.
