1/96 Scale T26 HMS Belfast build
« on: March 08, 2023, 10:59:30 am »

Hello All,

I hope in the next few days to take delivery of a gifted of a 1/96 scale hull from my good friend and owner of ScaleWarship. This hull of the Type 26 is the first out of the mould. Please note that John has not made any plans as to making this commercial available on his web site.

This build will take some years to complete as there are no current commercial drawing available. So along with John Wiles I’ll be drawing up my own, doing all the research I can and biassing it on any photos of HMS Glasgow I can obtain.

Once I have the hull I’ll post some pictures and my plans of what function I’ll have working. I hope this build will be enjoyed by all and hopefully inspire others to get into model boating.

Gents,

First I’d like thank all in there interest in this build log, BUT

It’s with great sadness that I will have to put this build on hold, as Thursday I was supporting my wife in her hobby showing her dog at Crufts. When in the snow I fell over and rupture my quadricep ligament and I’m currently awaiting an MRI and operation to fix the knee. So I’m unable to get out to the workshop at this time, therefore the build has to be put on hold for a couple on months hopefully.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the fall Dave.
Hopefully the MRI / operation will be successful.

Take it easy when you can...

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Dave.
I know how it feels after my fall in to Wicksteed lake last year! My own fault but still technically recovering from it currently. Had an accident yesterday too- anyone who says that WW1 ram bows don’t work my cheek and jaw say otherwise O0  my Glorious slid off its bench and gave a punch to the left cheek! Nice bruise forming :embarrassed:

The bruising in my knee has started to come out, the knee has a nice anti dazzle camo now.

Hi Gents,

I’ve received my new 1/96 Type 26 hull from Scalewarships. Unfortunately I can’t access my workshop to start on HMS Belfast, as I will be doing my own drawings this build will take some time, however I’m planning on having these working functions

Rotating main gun
Lights work on bridge, hanger, mission bay, flight deck etc.
Radars rotating.
Tried to have the mission bay doors opening.
Working crane in the Mission bay able to boom out the RIBs
Hanger door able to open and close. (As I’d planned on USS Roosevelt)
Use the same system I built on Roosevelt to allow the Merlin Helo to move in and out of the hanger

Well Dave, you've certainly got plenty working systems to plan ahead for. No doubt you will come up with solutions for them all.
Good to know your hull has arrived as well  :-))

Cheers,
Ray.
