Hi Chris,

High Torque Mabuchi 555 DC Motor 9-30V purchased from Component shop.

Yes she is 1/96 scale length 1556mm x 220mm.

I’ll be running her on two 5000. mah NIMH  12v packs.

We have not finalised the final prop design, size, but it looks to be around 50-55mm dia five bladed.

Photo showing the motor installed and the helicopter magnet track, which is installed under the flight deck and the hanger decking, this will allow the Merlin to move out of the hanger by a magnet and sail winch.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your nice comments :-))

As for the props, no I’ve not ordered them as we don’t know what the actual design is ie blade shape, number of blades the only info we’re happy with is the dia.

The Major issue with this build is !! I’m building a model of the actual ship that is still be constructed and I’m having to wait for the RN to issue photos, info or if news agency publish build photos . Other than that I’ll have to make best assumptions, that later my require remaking.

But once it been sorted the I’ll post pictures.

Hope your props and revised motors help get Tiger working as you like :-)) :-))

Quick update.

Been working on the electrics. I’ve Completed the instal of the Forge Dist board and the main power loom. I still have to finish the radio loom. As for the electronics I’m awaiting delivery from ScaleWarship a Forge 8 way switch and a servo slow. Once I have these units , I can finalise the radio wiring and the wiring loom for the following,

Helio deck landing lights
Hanger and mission bay lights
Main radar
Nav lights
Bridge lighting

Setup the helio track sail winch.

Hi Chris,

Thank I’m please with the track system, I’m looking at making the Merlin as there is no 1/96 or 1/100 scale kit available . I know the is a die cast 007 version, but that’s not an option at this time.

Yes the motors are 555, as for the magnets they are 10mm by 2mm 6kg strong.

Thanks for asking the knee is getting there. Hope your props arrive soon.

All the best to you and Jen

Is the die cast merlin the necessary scale, if so, could moulding it and creating a multi piece vacuform version be an option ?

The build it as they build it technique is an exciting way to go isn't it! That should give you plenty of time to look for references and know that they will become available rather than 'were available but got binned, burnt, bombed, drawn over or lost back in the mists of time.

Hi Warspite

The die cast Merlin is the Italeri 1/100 scale Sky fall model. I could take a mould off this model, however I would modify the model from a HC3 to the Navy version.

Anyway it’s an option.

Hi Chris,
Thanks I’ve started on the Merlin build, As I can’t do much more on the S/S, as like your Tiger the internal workings, detailing has to be done before I put the hanger roof and the forward S/S there after I can then continue to build.

The large opening is for the mission bay the travers the beam of the ship.

Made a start on some of the missile units on the Type 26 using photos of units fitted to up graded Type 45s and Type 23s

The first phot is of the Sea Ceptor system which provides complete protection against all known and projected air targets. The weapon system is now in full-scale development for the UK MOD as the principal air defence capability for the Royal Navy’sType 23 and Type 26 frigates.

The second is the master fitting and the mould I made.

Wow, they look the part! They look really different to the VLS caps used on the other systems. I must use my resin moulding kit I bought a few months back for this sort of thing.
Keep up the excellent work :-)

Thanks Nick,

I fully understand your work stress, as I’d had the same before I was promoted to Srn CE.(All work no play at that time).

Here is the second of the missed systems, the MK41 VLS, this is the same system used on the Arleigh Burke. So as I’d had the mould from USS Roosevelt this was a quick build. I’ve at this time not taken a mould as there is only one of these on the Type 26s

Hi Chris,

At this time based on Defence News BAE system have got in to bed with Lockheed Martin to use the MK41 system

The British have yet to publicly specify the missile types to be deployed in the Mk 41, but the launcher system has the flexibility to simultaneously operate anti-surface, land-attack, anti-air and anti-submarine weapons.”
