Found some up to date photos of HMS Glasgow being fitted out. However looking closely at these, I’ve noted the standard RN water tight doors have been upgrade to a new format. So it looks like I will have to make new master Doors

Hi there Dave, I've been out of the loop for a number of months now, for various reasons, but I'm finally back onboard!
I just had a good read through your build to date and am amazed at how much you've achieved so far.
Intrigued now as regards to the w/t doors you mentioned.
Great work so far Dave.

Edit : I would assume the 'spin wheel' on the inside of the door is for faster dogging down?

As regards the doors it seem the old four, three panel type WT door are not being used on the T26, the new Type look to be flat and flush with the superstructure. I’m assuming this is to help with stealth ?? Standardising with other global customers or costs.

As over the last few days It’s been too hot to work in the workshop, however last night I used my two part  Mk 45 gun mount mould and cast this off. As this is a hollow casting it allows me to do as I’d on my Arleigh Burke and have the gun barrel elevating.

You are doing some fine casting work there Chris! I like the two part turret mould. Do you use a pressure pot to keep pesky bubbles at bay? Also, how do you keep the core in place to ensure reasonable roof thickness, or does the core 'float' on the resin somewhat?

In answer to your question. I do use a de Gasing pump and chamber to remove any air from the RTV when making the mould.
I also use it to degas the resin.


The the core in this mould dose floats on the resin, but with other two part moulds I’ve used a wooden coffee stick attached to the core to hold it in place.

He I go again,
I’m looking in to having the hangar door working, this time I’m using some ripstock sandwich between 1mm plastic panels. The lower panel is made from brass with lead to add weight to add the door closing.



I’ve also made a start on the hangar internals, I’m basing this on RN info and I’m assuming as the type 26 will operate the Merlin I’m using the type 45 hangar detailing.

As you go can you keep posting on the opening doors, planning on doing hanger and rib doors on my t45

This the first stage. I cut the panels depth to required size, but the length I cut 1mm over, this is so I could sand the sides so I got a good fit in the tracks.
I made a spacer so I got even spacing of Each of the panels.

Dave keep it up and that will be another working set of hangar doors as per 1/1.  It took a lot of time and trials to get Phoebes working but well worth it

I’d spent along time trying to get the door system on USS Roosevelt working ,only to find I should have started it at the start of the build. If I had I’d would have had resolved the issues out and had the space for the workings.

Well I’ve been working on the door movement, I’ve found I needed a guide track to make the operation smooth.


The main issues I need to resolve is getting the guide track centred, adjust its angle and making it removable as I will have too have the hangar roof removable for maintenance access. So I’m unable to lock the guide track in place until that’s sorted.

HI Dave just been lookin at you hanger door mech an it looks great  but a qeustion if i may what will push the door up an down eg. motor or SERVO ? an any new pics please

OH i see Dave but will you get enough throw on the servo to open an close the hager door ?

Yes, as if required I’ll extend the servo arm. I’ve made shore the door slides in the tracks with very little drag. The channel I’m using is one of the toggle switch when operated I’ll have full servo movement both ways.




Once I’m happy with it I’ll post a video.

Sorry Dave! I got mixed up    Is that the Vevor degassing set? I was toying with getting that a while back. I bought a pressure pot first.


Your hangar door system looks the business! By chance I was playing little Lego with my nephew the other day and found the parts to make a garage door. It is limited by the width of the plastic parts but it works very well. It has no automation as it is just a toy, but it could be modified. I am not suggesting you replace your system as it is spot on and probably the most advanced I have seen made.
