boiler bush

Hi I've run into trouble with a cheddar boiler ,bottom water gauge sheered off its 1/4x32 tried the usual heat and stud extractor no joy ,drilled 5 mll and taped 1/4 32 but fitting sloppy in boiler bush  ,I'm thinking trying 5 1/6tap which i have but unsure of the drill size i need to use any thoughts there is plenty of meet on the bush itself ,kind regards Allan

Here's a link to a German site listing the model engineering thread tap drill sizes.  They don't say what % the thread depth is though, maybe 60%?  If you're metrically challenged, there are plenty of on-line converters that will change mm to inches.

try to drill out from 4mm to 5,5mm and then try to get out the broken water gauge. Recut the thread if necessasary.

What is the pitch, ie, ME, BSP, BSB'  whit worth, etc as I have all the tapping size gauges

Cheddar boiler bushes are 1/4X32TPI Model-Engineer

thanks I've sorted it drilled both water gauge bushes 7 mll and taped out 5 1/6 x 32 waiting for water gauge from kennions thanks for all  replies

Allan, going to the larger 5 1/16x32 ME fitting should work fine...if memory serves correctly the bush will have plenty of material for tapping to the larger size.
