Dremel multi tool
« on: May 08, 2023, 01:00:56 pm »

Hi all,
I have a Dremel Multi tool model 395. Bought about 1998/99.
It’s starting to seriously loose power, even on full speed I can hold it and stall the motor with my hand  :o

I have changed the brushes and still the same.
Does anyone have any ideas of what can be wrong, or am I correct in thinking it’s just got to it’s end of life??

I am guessing the motor windings are deteriorating or clogged up.

Gingyer....                   Bought in 98/99.... Do you not think that it is done...... have you not had your monies worth from it... Me thinks that it is time for a replacement... You surely cannot have any complaints that you only got 24 years of use from it.     Seen on FB market place.Product photo of DREMEL

My Dremel is some 18 years old too.
The only thing i have replaced due to motor stalling is the speed control slider which did the job, i cleaned everything while i had it apart works like new everytime its used

Possibly a daft question, you did clean the commutator on the motor when you changed the brushes I presume.
One other possibility, what is the power supply? have you checked it with another motor? A dying battery or a transformer supply with part of the rectifier going could do what you describe.

Hi all,
its 240v straight from the mains.
I checked the windings and commutator, I stripped it down gave it a clean.

Absolutely no complaints I have used it a work also not just my modelling but....
the newer ones are not to the same level as the older ones so IF i can get it going again then ideal

I agree with Jay - the speed control circuit is by far the most likely culprit. My Dremel is over 20 years old and only the speed control has failed. (In my case, I get full speed all the time - but I live with that!)

Mike

If it is from the mains try running it direct, not through the ESC. That will show whether it is the motor or the ESC. nemesis

I would not try this if it is a DC Brushed Motor.
