Mystery Scottish Fishing Boat
« on: May 09, 2023, 06:02:35 pm »

I recently bought an excellent fibreglass hull and matching plan by James Pottenger of a "Scottish Fishing Skiff".  It's registration number was CN (Cambeltown) 992 and its 1\20 scale suggests it was around 48 feet long.

I am not the fastest builder in the World and I have all too many other boats and projects.  Before committing myself to get another build I am trying to complete some research on this very attractive boat of around 1960.   So far after 2 hours on my PC I have drawn a blank - so can anyone help??

With best wishes. Dr John Fowler. Leeds and Bradford. MBC.  {:-{ {:-{

She will have been drawn to represent a real boat , can't find any photos of the original ( I know James and he normally drew his plans to represent existing boats ) but it is possible that she's a representative model of a Herring ring Net boat , found one photo and the name on it was Glen Scotia CN992 ( now searching for Glen Scotia will only get you images of bottles of Whisky... )

James has been a fairly prolific author on fishing boats ( https://www.google.com/search?q=fishing+boats+james+pottinger&client=firefox-b-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwii2Ob1i-n-AhX5_7sIHYyfBCAQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1366&bih=587&dpr=1 ) and is still active on facebook https://www.facebook.com/james.a.pottinger

late 1940's to early 1960's were when these boats were built so you won't find her on any current lists as registration numbers were reissued once a boat had been taken off the register
