How to setup forward/reverse to servo on a Graham TVR1A-BB
« on: April 06, 2023, 04:07:45 pm »

Hey, any good ideas on building a gismo to setup forward/reverse to servo on a Graham TVR1A-BB. Building a new boat and thought I would get a head-start on where to place the servo in relationship to the forward/reverse mechanism.

Morfa:
Look at post #102 (Return of Clever Lever)

Not my post.  However, it shows the mod needed.

DocMartin,

Thanks for this - I talk to Carl Miller once a week maybe more, but never thought to ask him.
Thanks for the heads up - this is perfect.

As a follow-up to my question for a forward and reverse for my TR1A-BB. An engineer boat club buddy (Mark Montgomery) took Carl Miller's idea and made a bell crank for me.

Works great on air, will try with steam shortly. — https://www.morfa.ca/Bellcrank2023.mp4
He produced some great diagrams for those who wish to do it themselves - great boat builder too.

Thanks for everybody's help

Missed this the first time - sorry! - but there is another way to operate the forward/reverse lever, but it is done from the other side of the engine.  If you look at this video, you will see that the forward/reverse lever is extended to the other side of the engine and has a brass lever mounted on it.  A servo (hidden in the video) then pushes/pulls that lever to operate the reverse mechanism.  However, if you are already set up, feel free to ignore all this!

Happy steaming

Greg

Greg,
Very neat indeed. Very simple. As I have already Macgyvered it, by a very nice boat engineer friend.
Will keep this method in my back pocket - thanks for it
