Looking for Flower Class plans
« on: July 03, 2023, 07:56:03 pm »

Hi,
Would anyone have a set of plans/ general arrangement drawings for a Flower Class corvette please. I have  a very nice 1/48 scale hull by Fleetscale.

They do sell plans but are a bit pricey. If anyone has a set in oter scales that I can buy or borrow with all expenses paid I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Hi Andy,
Do you know what variation you want to build 'cos there are lots! Some built in England, some in Canada and even the USA where, to complicate matters, plenty were modified with totally different armaments and superstructure. Plenty of reading matter to help in the choice. So, for example,

Thanks for replying Tony. I was thinking I would base it around Snowberry or similar. I've been modelling for many years but don't have anything "grey" in my fleet. The closest I came was building a 1/72 Revell kit for a friend.
If I don't find plans I would consider buying another Revell 1/72 kit  and learning how to scale up from that to 1/48 . Its probably a long way round but thats where I'm at at the moment.
If I got plans of any Flower class I'd be happy to build that particular model.

Thanks for your help.
Regards.

HMCS Snowberry and HMCS Sackville are from the same stable of Canadian ones and Sackville still exists as a museum ship, so there's loads and loads of stuff on line including a big version of this one so have fun on your keyboard :-)) .

Just in case of confusion, Snowberry was built in Canada for the RN but spent most of the war in RCN service. :-))

Just a note on design for the "rivet counters".  Corvettes built in Canada for the Canadian account were originally intended for minesweeping as well as A/S work.  To facilitate this, they were fitted with a squarer transom and a deck house of different length to accomodate the minesweeping winch.  Snowberry and her British sisters, including those built in Canada for the Admiralty,  had a rounded transom.  I see many Sackvilles converted from the Snowberry kit that still have that configuration.

That's why I prefer to do the full US conversions. Very few around so "who knows" what's wrong {-)
