Marx Bongo outboard electric
« on: August 01, 2023, 08:42:18 pm »

Hi all, I have a Marx Bongo outboard / inboard electric drive.  My one is 4.8 volts with supermonoperm motor.  I am looking for another one to pair up and go in a model boat.
Has anyone got one they want to part with?

Thanks Martin you have identified the Bongo!  I am not too fussed if the mechanism is working as I may be able to do some motor substitution.  Fingers are crossed!

The Bongo units were discussed in-depth recently in a thread on the Model Boats magazine website forum. The broken unit ended up having two replacement gears 3d printed at a local specialist. These units are obviously now many years obsolete, if you have difficulty obtaining a second drive, would a 3d printed unit be worthy of consideration.

Hi Tony thanks for the link.  I had read that article but not the 3D print part.
I was really aiming at getting some use out of old motors which I collect.  I think if I was specifically looking for this kind of drive I know there are some available.

Apart from a recently bought kit, I scratchbuild and use all those pieces of wood and fittings i have in the workshop, well shed really.  I find it very satisfactory to build a model boat and only spend on glue and paint and even better when the plan is free as well.
I know that when that bucket is presented to me for kicking the bits and pieces I value will just be disposed of.
So getting some use out of old or obsolete stuff is the essence for me.  If no one has a Bongo then the boat will not be built.

At the moment I am building from the otherwise unwanted wood a working model which might be more valued by my kith and kin.

Thanks for your reply and regards
Roy
