I have just bought a chrome plate "kit" for plating several brass parts for Crackerbox I'm building - Bright Nickel Plating Kit from Gateros Plating Ltd.
Has anyone else had a go at chroming?

I did try similar a few years ago. But to be honest I didn't get far. I did manage to dissolve a brass part, I think I must have reversed to current..! Then paid for a chroming service...


But I wondered how you've got on with the kit.  Any results..?

Are you sure you're Chrome plating and not bright Nickel plating? Chrome is a hard colourless protection plating applied after Nickel.

Looking at the chemicals involved it is Nickel plating, no chrome involved. Iwould hope no one  attempts to actually chrome plate at home due to the high toxicity of the materials needed. Cyanide tends to be involved in the plating bath, one of the reasons there is much less chrome plating done commercially due to the difficulty of safely disposing of wastes.

I recently tried and the results were incredible. I followed a tutorial from youtube. The results I got were dull to start but polished to a mirror finish to which paint just can't compare.
