Here for sale is my friends magnificent steam powered River Cruiser, its 51 inches long and 11 inches wide. The engine has been re installed (May 2022) complete with a newly added reversing mechanism. The reverse has been set up with a servo and works as it should. The boiler was hydraulically tested 3 years ago and has been fired up a few times to test run the Stuart D10 and reversing mechanism which all worked fine (July 2022). My friend didn't get to run the boat on the lake so no pictures of it running. All that should be needed is transmitter receiver and battery, the buyer ought to have a steam test done before using it.
The work on the reversing mechanism can be seen on the forum https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,68430.msg741312.html#msg741312
In addition here isa link to the D10 running on 7psi air with the forward and reverse being tested https://youtu.be/0mpBO4mdXfs?si=NTHwMDyIUg5z8sLg

The boat can be seen either at Redhill Surrey or in Horsham Sussex, £1275

Bob thank you that’s appreciated, the model is impressive and will really turn heads when it’s on the lake under steam

Looks incredibly like a Basset-Lowke 'Streamliner'

My friend did research the model and we were struck by the resemblance to the Bassett-Lowke Streamliner and long suspected it might be a Bassett-Lowke but couldn’t find one the same, that’s why I have called it a river cruiser in the advert, it would be nice to see a picture or drawing of the Lady Barbara and to know more about it.

In the 70's I worked in Northampton and regularly visited Bassett-Lowke's shop -
I recall a simple catalogue of A4 black & white photocopied pages held together by a staple in the top corner
containing model boat plans, but sadly cannot find it !
'Gwen Eagle' was another lovely cabin cruiser in their range.

My interest in Lady Barbara was sparked after seeing the model perform at a steam boat gathering held at the Steam Boat museum in Bowness Windermere,
another featured in Model Boats magazine around the same time powered by a single Stuart 10 driving twin prop shafts,
designed by John Langsford, he'd also designed another 'Lady ?????' cabin cruiser super structure (minus funnel) on the same hull.

Thank you for such an informative discussion the River Cruiser has now been sold on our favorite online auction site for £1344.56, my friends partner is pleased with the price achieved but is sad to see the boat go, hopefully the new owner will send a video of it running on a lake somewhere.
