Z Poxy Shortage
« on: November 23, 2023, 08:24:40 pm »

I have seen reports that ZPoxy adhesives and finishing resin are very difficult to find at the moment and a quick check online seems to confirm this. Most suppliers seem to be out of stock.

Anyone know why?

Better alternatives are available at easycomposites.co.uk  :-))

Not what I asked Andy! I know there are alternatives.

Well in that case, I’m not sure where your reports are coming from, because googling zpoxy comes up with countless shops with it all in stock. Going on eBay produces exactly the same result…

Well, countless stores or not, there is a shortage due to a raw materials shortage in the States. So much so that my mate who does traditional timber jets had to accept a gift from me of two thirds of a big pack of PT40 from me so he could complete his project. Set in his ways, didn't want to try other stuff despite having easy access to BSI and Bucks Composites products.

The price of epoxy has gone wayyy up over here, almost doubled in four years.

I haven't tried countless suppliers but most of the ones I normally use are out of stock. It's been that way for a while and yes, the cost of many adhesives has gone up a lot recently by 30%/40% or so.

So the couple of suppliers you usually use are out of stock, which means there must be a global shortage of zpoxy? {-)

Currently there’s so much demand for epoxy and carbon fibre that supply is only just keeping up with demand. Doesn’t mean there’s none available

On a dissimilar note, has anyone tried construction sealants on a model boat?

OB1 MULTI-SURFACE SEALANT & ADHESIVE
Gorilla Black Waterproof Coat & Seal
Thompson's 10 Year Roof Seal
etc, etc.

A quick Google confirms that there is indeed currently a global shortage of this type of product and the reasons for it.  This is not based on a couple of suppliers being out of stock  {-)

And while this initial shortage of raw materials was reported in 2021 it seems that this has taken some time to filter through the supply chain and is now being felt by the end user.

PT40 and PT41 back in stock with the UK hobby distributors December 24th at Present. So that means, once you get Christmas and the distributors holidays over with (!), early January.
