I take it you need more than a day to see the whole show !!

With Dortmund I booked 4 days hols ; 2 days travelling and 2 full days ( from opening time to closing time) for the exhibition , which occupied 8 large halls . I intend to allow 6 days for the 12 halls at Friedrichshafen ; 2 days travelling , 3 in exhibition ( which includes a large outdoor flying area) and 1 day at the airship museum ( which is the other reason for going ).

I have also been a fan of Dortmund and am considering Friedrichshafen. How are you getting there? There is a Lufthansa flight but it is expensive whilst the Easyjet flight (Saturdays only) doesn't work. I guess that it must be OK but the November date for an event that includes a lot of outside also seems strange.

PS Anybody who compare any of the UK events to Dortmund simply hasn't been to Dortmund.

Tug , Cost of direct flight air fare is the problem I have found too , so am still looking at alternatives.

Trainline says 9hrs or so but at £100 to £200 each way.

Coach travel takes 24hrs! (Flixbus)

Zurich & local transport? - every 2hrs takes 2.5hrs and costs £10 return

Simply that Dortmund is a much broader interest modelling show and vastly larger scale than anything here.

might want to look at the name of this forum . it Model BOAT mayhem ,BOAT is the clue. So to comapir the boat part of Dortmund against UK show is a direct comparision.  Like you can compair the model railway section of Dortmund against UK shows. NO one but you has tried to compair the whole of Dortmund ,all deperments against a UK show exect you.

The other RC hobbies have a lot of crossover with model boats. Also the last few model boat show at Warwick gave over a third of the floor space to trucks. With the show called International Model Boat Show. Cannot remember international traders being present.
If we also go by your commit about what is the name of this forum, it has other entries to other hobbies and interests. Which I enjoy reading.

I guess that our interests are different. I love pretty well anything to do with modelling and can enjoy (& learn from) the skill of modellers in all aspects. If you isolate the model boats (which I wouldn't do) then there may be better shows that Dortmund but recent Warwick with its Tamiya trucks wasn't one of them. I cannot comment on Blackpool.

As a measure I go to Dortmund for 3 or 4 days and struggle to see it all. UK model boat shows were at best a day.

Perhaps I am unfortunate in that model boats seem to have linked with Tamiya trucks which are perhaps the aspect of modelling that I find least interesting. At Dortmund the range and quality of truck components is in itself worth visiting.

Each to their own.

Astounded to see that the largest dedicated model boat show (most probably) worldwide hasn’t been mentioned here - Mayhem at Wicksteed

Looks like more a model railway show with a few bolt ons. Entrance prices seem a little confusing

I agree, mostly model rail oriented. I've nothing against model rail, I dabble in it from time to time, but as a Pendon volunteer, I get to see the worlds finest railway and scenery modelling at close quarters quite often!
