Mountfleet LCM 6
« on: December 13, 2023, 01:33:04 pm »

Hello All

Having spent a little while super detailing a Heng Long 1/16 Sherman Tank I wanted to start yet another Project to cover the Winter. Pictures of the Finished Tank can be found under subject heading "RC Tanks"
After some thought and a number of suggestions by fellow Mayhemers I decided on a Landing Craft for the Sherman with, hopefully, a working ramp.

Trawling the internet I found a few options
1... Deans marine LCM 3... however this one is only 1/24 scale but a nice looking kit.
2...A Chinese based kit from Aliexpress at 1/16th scale but expensive and with shipping cost and the possibility of import duty etc I didn't want to risk it.
3... A Ready to Run 1/16 from RC Motion but again very expensive and without the challenge of a Kit build.

I considered scratch building but first had a quick browse on Mountfleets' site where, by chance, I found a 1/16 LCM 6 Semi Kit under their product heading of "Other Parts", ideally suited to the Heng Long Sherman Tank.
At just under £200 it seemed excellent Value and having built four of their lovely models in the past ( Bangarth Tug, Danny Boy, Admiralty Coaster and my all time favourite ,Highlander Puffer ) I made an inquiry and placed an order.
Just over two weeks later it's arrived in a massive "coffin" of a box.
As a semi kit it looks very nice with a large fibre glass "shoe box " Hull and a goodly number of quality resin and white fittings.plus sheets of Lite Ply, Dowel and square section Balsa
As with any Semi kit the drawings and instructions will take some interpretation and thought but there's plenty of room for super detailing using references off the internet.
My wife has offered to buy me the control equipment , motors etc for Christmas so I'm about to spend the afternoon looking through what's required so she can get the order to Santa.

Looking forward to building this one!

Regards Terry H

Hello all
I've finally finished the Mountfleet LCM, though a little late for the D Day Commemorations.
As stated previously the kit is good value with plenty of build material and quality resin fittings ... though some, such as life belts and top tube on the ramp had the be reshaped after a soaking in hot water, no big issue at all. I did purchase some thinner poly sheet to make up the Conning Tower as the 4 mm Lite ply supplied would have been way out of scale.
Some head scratching required during the build but with lots of info on the internet modellers license can prevail as no two of these LCM's appear to be the same.
No additional ballast required as the HengLong Sherman is quite a heavy beast.
My son purchased the detailed 1/16 figures from various sources  as a surprise gift and they are intended to represent some of the Allies involved... I particularly like the relaxed composure of the British Tank Commander , though I believe his "Pixie" suit wasn't issued until Autumn 1944.
All in all an enjoyable and different model to build.
Regards
