FlySky FS-R6B problem
« on: December 20, 2023, 02:12:36 pm »

Hi, I purchased 3 FlySky FS-R6B receivers quite a while ago from an internet site. I have only just started to use them but I find they all burn out the servo that is connected to channel 2. Channel 1 and 3 work fine for speed and rudder but I want to use channel 2 to switch on lights etc.. Have I purchased 3 dud receivers or can someone suggest a reason why this could be happening. I have burned out 4 mini servos to date (in the last 5 days). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You are burning out the servos because you are not allowing them free movement.
The receiver shares its two-wire connection to 5 volts or to a battery & a position signal via the orange or white wire.

The servos are not connected to anything. I have plugged them into channel 2 to test them and after about 2 minutes they stop working. They feel warm to the touch.

The logical inference from your opening post is channel 2 servo burns out due to "binding" where one connected to a rudder tiller does not.

This still stands:
Quote
The receiver shares its two-wire connection to 5 volts or to a battery & a position signal via the orange or white wire.
The receiver can't kill a servo with an internal wiring fault if the servo plug is correctly connected or rotated such that signal white(orange) & black are swapped but red maintained. It can share power and command the servo to obtain a position.
What is the voltage and battery type (or what supplies power to) the receiver?

It feels more likely that it is a bad batch of servos. Are they branded ones or transparent blue ones for a couple of quid each?! Also, is the steering servo the same type as the ones that are failing?

Yes, I remember similar anecdotes before and possibly from negative Ebay feedback. It was the only answer I could come up with after eliminating exceeding a 7 volt supply and 300Hz PWM from a receiver.
There should be no worry about receivers here.

Thanks for the replies. The servos are the blue ones and some black ones. They work ok on a different channel but fail on C2. I tried one on C4 which worked fine then put it on C2 and it failed. The power comes from a 5v UBEC to the rx and the mail power battery is a 7.2v NiMh.

Is it only one Rx seems faulty or same on the other two?

This is a weird one.  I would check the voltage at the receiver positive and negative pins on each of the servo outputs. At least you would know if they are all the same and correct.

It is the same problem with all 3 receivers and servos when connected to channel 2.

I think any troubleshooting page's top hit would be a voltage failsafe on channel 2.
That's just what you need on an aircraft.
I suggest look up the instructions for something along that line.
If that is the reason don't go too hard on yourself.

One common difficulty with problem solving for all at us, is that we assume something using common sense, instead of checking. It's best to be methodical,  I've often seen someone presume a battery to be fine because it's just been charged, eventually to find a cell has failed. Your problem seems to be a stinker, but there will be a reason for it, methodical checking might get a result.

Is there a Factory Reset option for the Tx?

I will check out the voltage failsafe on channel 2 first. There is a reset for the tx but would that mean I have to re-do all the settings for the 10 boats I have on there already?

Then everyone would suggest don't reset the transmitter.

Some points of note with the latest information:-
*Three different receivers suppressing the servo signal from an up/down stick (throttle) screams to me an ideal aeroplane setup.
*Damaged servos tells me otherwise.
*Servos warm after a while doesn't give concern.
*A locked in failsafe will hold a servo to a fixed position. You can't move the servo in failsafe with your finger without it resisting at 2kgcm. I'd expect a led indication of failsafe on the receiver.
*So far, I have not located instructions beyond basic specification.
*If it isn't resolved yet, channel 2 voltage is of interest if you don't have an oscilloscope.

All channels show 5v across + and -. However, after purchasing a new mini servo and fitting it I find there is no problem with the new one. I therefor assume that I have purchased 2 sets (5 each) of faulty servos from the well known auction site. I may not be using that site for similar purchases in the future. Thank you all for your patience and assisting me in finding a solution to this problem.
