Turbinia "The Ocean Greyhound"
« on: March 12, 2024, 03:39:10 pm »

Does anyone know of any large scale models/kits for this boat? Something around the 1:24 scale? (4ft long, 4inches wide)

Charles Parson's "Ocean Greyhound"  - the first steam turbine-powered steamship, built as an experimental vessel in 1894.
Top speed was around 35knots which is around 2.5x hull speed, which 130 years ago much have been a sight to see!

That is very nice indeed! And appear to have a working steam turbine?

That's a good collection of links.

Interesting crossover in a world where a singe 2D plan printed out is £12-15, with a comprehensive and detailed 3D model coming for free!
Having downloaded the GrabCAD model and opened it, it looks good overall and there is good detail, although I have not checked for accuracy.

Don't have time to progress this in detail at the moment, but its certainly all very interesting.

I would love to see a scale model, or even a large scale replica, travelling at speed.
