We came over to Wickstead this afternoon and saw and wondered at the magnificence of it all. A truly great display of our hobby, well done everyone.

I mentioned to Ron Dean that he was the leader in the 'Longest Transmitter Aerial' class as he was the only person on the lake NOT using a 2.5 Ghz set!  :-)   But as he was sailing the truly magnificent Blue Leopard' it was understandable.

That gave rise to the thought that such a wonderful display would have been almost impossible in earlier days as we'd have been limited to the number of available channels with 27 Mhz and 40 Mhz radio.

[Later] Well I did post a pic of the Blue Leopard to accompany this, but the site seemed to take exception and didn't print it.  >>:-(

Not long been home in Oxfordshire after a very enjoyable day at Wicksteed Park. Wonderful to have been a part of the mayhem, great people and models everywhere.
Thank you to Martin and his team for organising such a great event.
My first time there, but definitely not the last.

Just to add my thanks to Martin and the Mayhem team for a fantastic day out today.  I travelled up from Somerset (Woodspring Model Sailing Club) and you all made me feel very welcome.  The marquee / gazebo over the public benches and tables for visitors was really helpful - thank you for that.  I can't think of another event that makes our hobby come alive the way that Mayhem at Wicksteed does - well done all.

Well the weatherman Lied to us! .... the weather ( Sunday ) turned out to be actually warmer than Saturday!   <*<
I was a little damp early on, a couple of quick shows &  One Rumble of thunder, and that was it! Beautiful sunshine from about 11am onwards!

First of all as always, HUGE thank you to the Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club for patiently ( doggedly ) organising and arranging EVERYTHING!
Mention for dispatches:

Nick Brown ( and 16 Bars! )
Steve Brown
Phil ( SteamboatPhil - Generosity Abounds, always!))
Klunk ( he insists on that name & who are we to argue! )
Big Andy ( Lady Poppy , Richard & Stevenage MBC )
Ruth & Gina ( Tea & Coffee & Bacon rolls - always a mayhem favourite! )
Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club ( everyone )
Wicksteed MBC Café Ladies & Gentlemen ( sterling job! )
All the clubs that turned up!
All the individual boaters , some travelled really far!

EVERYONE that came up to me, shook my hand and smiled!

Probable Mayhems best weekend at Wicksteed ever!
( Some say 17 years,  but estimates rage from 16 to 18 years...! )
If not the best then certainly in my top 3... at one stage yesterday, just for a moment, we were nearly organised but then a butterfly
flapped its wings somewhere and the the normal happy chaos resumed.

As I say fantastic turn out yesterday, over 150 cars in the car park & early afternoon over 40, yes Forty boats on the water at the same time!   :o

More than a few were surprised I actually turned up with model boats this year, no, not a Club500 but a large Tugboat and a yellow submarine...
..  which won the ( premeditated ) awards for longest boat on the water, most endurable boat, most energy efficient of the weekend!... plus 6 x 686 Tugboats!
Other records broken this year: I didn't sink anything, sailed a J-class yacht, Dennis' Tarpen,  Nick didn't fall in ( to be verified ), Poppy's potato salad, record tea & coffee consumed.

Wasn't feeling to great yesterday but what a wonderful Weekend! ... Lets do it all again next year!

( Draft 3 -  to be updated when I is less tyred! )

well we had planned to come down this year but I for a change put a damper on that as they bought my spinal operation forward by a week so that spoilt our fwd planning so to speak never mind allways next year.

What a weekend!

The 'Mayhem Committee' (Martin, Nick, Phil, Pete and I) really are getting the hang of this running shows business %)

Thank you to everyone who came, to everyone behind the scenes and the Wicksteed club for having us

Highlight of the weekend had to be the 'tug 500' race round the harbour, everyone needs to get themselves a 686 tug!

Time for a very long lie down, then we'd better start planning next year!
