yup already noticed that when looking at real photos other day, going to cut the hole out once i have done all the supports, one side done, not fixed in place yet i just slot them in for the pics..

Slight change of plan in terms of deck, I was hoping to add planking but after looking at the job i think its going to be too complex for me, the issue is the Bulwark is in the way, as usually I'm guessing decking would be done before the bulwark is fit in place but as this hull came with the bulwark s i didn't have that option!


So I've decided I'm just going to do the deck as it is, I know some will say "it shouldn't have planks anyway" but I'm not building my TID to any particular TID that existed, although the rest of the TID will be pretty much the same as the 1:1, the deck i really did want to plank! :(


oh well, I'm still happy with how it is turning out so far considering its my 1st model boat build :)


here's rest of bulwark supports done, i just need to cut out the rat holes & add the thin front plate for each (these are not fixed in place yet i just placed them in position for phots) :)

Hi, suggest you make the stay cuts a little bigger as by the time you get the paint on the space will vanish and the water will not drain through. nemesis

As mentioned in my previous post, i still need to cut out the holes, the pieces i just put in plqce for photos 👍

Deck all filled & sanded ready for primer, before that i will be fitting the bulwark supports, talking of which, i will be adding the front edge for each bulwark before fixing them to deck. Here's couple of pics of the superstructure, the stack isn't fixed yet as I'm still finishing it off.

i just spent about 15-20 mins adding lots of update photos only to get a "database" error, its not the first time this has happened when adding images, seems the database has glitches as there's also errors a lot of times when editing a post :(

daz.......certainly a comprehensive listing of photos & videos...well done......   always good to look back at stages during the build

The New Brighton video '27-08-2019, 07:31 PM'  has a truck load of background noise , but early on [first 27 seconds] and during some closer stages, the hull appears to sound if the propeller drive is cavitating....[drawing air]

So, not sure if this is the intended draft with ballast included?....[what is the unit of measure in each of the plastic tubs balllast tubs?]

I have gone back a bit....is the motor a T12 high torque low speed unit? .......excellent choice for a Tug
You may need to recheck this. I understand the model is a Tug, and it is good to see realistic speeds.......not a speed boat Looking forward to seeing more

The vid was shot very early on in the build, and as such the only ballast used was from the batterys, i think i made a post after the vid regarding the ballast as i calculated it would need around another 20kg, so the sound you heard is due to the hull sitting high so the prop wasnt fully submerged when rotating which as you mention, was drawing air. Im yet to do another wet test to determime the correct waterline/ballast which will be once ive primed/painted the hull.. soon!


The motor is from Mobile Marine Models, it was listed as 24v 12 pole, they no longer sell them i dont think, the actual rpm under load is around 3500-4000 without the need for any gearing, which is ideal for scale speed of my tid    i also have a similar motor but 12v  but after testing both in my build, the 24v ran smoother, im running it on 12v. The motors i believe are what are used on electric wheelchairs and escooters!


As soon i get another vid i will post it, im.keen myself to do another wet test but i want to get the hull painted first

I've also made the bollards using some brass tubing & in middle of spraying them along with the stack, will post pics soon, here's a vid of my mist unit i made which works in conjunction with my ESC:

you can also faintly hear the sound of the engine in background (im using the BEIER sound module), but i will get a better video shortly of the sound/smoke unit working together :)

Stack is coming along now, attached the bottom/primed & now in process of spraying it!



Last pic is current stage which shows it masked off to spray the top & bottom black. This is the colour green i will be using for the middle section of hull!

Made a start on the mast, i made the mast using some 12mm Dowel which i sanded down to get the shape, I then used some brass tubing for the end of mast to make a plug that slots into the front cabin of superstructure where i also fixed a piece of brass tubing for the mast to plug into.

a little more done to the stack, just some finishing touches needed such as the ring near top which will be done in hull red colour & then satin lacquer to finish,

Steam Whistle  & Escape pipes that will attach to the stack, I made these using some brass tubing bent to shape. As you can see, one pipe is slightly larger in diameter than the other, as on the real TID, the Steam Escape pipe is slightly thicker. For the brackets I used some small brass screw eyes. I will not be painting these parts so they will be left brass.

so, I've decided i wasn't too keen on the shade of green i used on the stack, so I've gone with a darker shade (this will be the same green colour i will be using for part of the hull & deck etc).

Rework of my circuit board, swapped out the 2x single head misters for 1x 3 head mister which means less wiring and only 1x converter is needed!
