  • Model Boat Mayhem is Great!

As a teenager, I used to build model boats (with reed relay RC). I have just introduced my 8yr old grandson to model boating and he has just completed his first boat (Riviera).  He has also become fascinated with yachts and we have just bought a second hand DF65.
My goal is to begin a SS Waverley model (a trip on her between Weymouth and Lulworth Cove when a teenager started my fascination with boats), but first I am looking to build either the Vosper Thornycroft 52m Ramadan or 56m Oman Fast Attack Craft. I worked on the design of both in the mid 70's, took part in sea trials and wish to recreate something that started my career.

Hi Martin

Welcome to the Mayhem!
Good to hear that the grandson is a now a model boater, just introduced my eldest niece and she has started on her second model.
Interesting to see your interests, whilst I’m not much of a paddler I am in to the warship scene. My Dad and I built a what-if Vosper-Thornycroft 36m concept vessel from the late 1970s armed with Sea Archer ‘Ottomat’ missiles system and a 57mm Bofors gun. Very rakish bow but never produced. We found in a box on eBay some concept drawings and brochure and built a 1/24 scale model which we name ‘Velocity’.
Look forward to your models when they get built, there is plenty of experience on this forum always willing to help. :-))
