One I made earlier
« on: October 24, 2024, 11:02:36 am »

Not been about on the forum for some time now. Been bust with a million other things .

But now just started again

I am not the best in fact far from it and most of my creations look well knackered when I finish them. But it’s the enjoyment I get out of it .

Anyway a long time ago I was messing about with plywood ect and decided to make a hull and a mould.

Inspired by this site…

The plywood hull went in the bin  I  think it did but I have still got the hull moulding.
So got it out today dusted it off.
Made a few minor repairs as it has been kicking about wherever it was put and ended up behind the back of the shed
Polished it and now thinking I may well make one and see what I have got ..

As I said it’s been some time .
So far it’s 46 inches long
12 1/2 inches wide and 10 inches deep approx.

It’s quite exciting as I am not sure what I will get.

That, for a "first" mould, i presume from what you say is an absolute cracker.
Been making grp moulds fopr at least 45 years, and that is lookijg superb......your hull should with proper preperation to the mould before moulding should come out as sweet as a nut.
Good lucj and take it slowly but carefully on the moulding and you can look forward to a perfect casting.  :-))

I did start it a long time ago as a fishing vessel with a sloping transom then thought it could even be a tug. Or any vessel that needs to recover anything via the stern.

I have still not decided .

It has an indentation where the bow thrusters could go if required and also a void for the anchors .

Provision for a twin Props or korts.  I guess it’s not a kit so it can be anything.

However I will wait till I have pulled out a moulding next week or so..

Gel coated and laid up early this morning   So will turn it out of its split mould soon and update the thread…

Now thinking I may make a shorter one. Two options. Here either cut and destroy the mould

Or make a false fitting transom  and see what I get then …

but two would be more than enough for a while .

But with carefully made transoms the sizes that can be made would amount to different looking hulls.

And of course with a moulding  made double the thickness this opens up a new option on cutting up the new hull moulding and  making something else to make a mould of.

As I made the mould myself not using another hull  I made it out of plywood and plastic there is no copyright.
And as far as I know it’s not the same size of any other hulls I have seen .

So endless options.

Split mould

I had a bit of mould damage to repair due to a metal something hitting the inside..

Just found the link to when I started the mould

https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,69395.0.html

And here is the result. Not polished washed cleaned or trimmed just right out of the mould

Extra layer of 600 gram matting to top all round. The bow thruster openings the prop shaft areas and the rudder areas

Update when I have it cleaned up including more accurate sizes

Needs a good polish with some g3 liquid.

I don’t know they seem to have vanished  altogether from the post image site.
I may have to repost the lot again

And here are a few of a stubby version

I am now thinking one more moulding a little bigger and that’s enough then.

Just cut the stubby hull up. I may have to reduce the bow a little .

I am sure this could make something interesting . May be an anchor handling vessel.

Or something like an oil rig support vessel. Who knows as I don’t know myself yet 😂😂😂

But if I have cut it too low I will have to make another .
