Spektrum DXS Transmitter
« on: January 04, 2025, 07:19:11 pm »

Happy New Year
I received a Spektrum DXS transmitter for Christmas. I have not used it yet, but my initial impression is that it is simple to set up and operate (compared to my DX6i). Anyone else have one? All the reviews I have found were for RC planes. Any comments or hints would be welcome.
Cheers, Ray

I have a DXE, which appears to be one step up from the S model (a few extra switches).  Works flawlessly especially with the push-button binding receivers that Spektrum have put out recently.  One annoyance is that servo reversing is a fairly involved process where you have to start up the Tx with the sticks held a certain way, then waggle them to cycle through servos based on the number of flashes of the On light.  If you're going to bind with multiple receivers across multiple models, make sure all your rudder servos are the same!

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the tips and comments. I thought this might make a good transmitter for my grandson to use, allowing both of us to operate boats on the pond at the same time. The Tx will be specific to a particular boat that requires only three functions (throttle, rudder, and lights). Hopefully, I will not need to reverse any servos. Have you had to update your DXE? I was discouraged to learn that a programing cable is necessary to update. This was not included with the Tx and is rather pricey, being about 30% of the cost of the radio alone. I do not intend to use this to fly planes so only rudimentary functions are necessary. Will I need to update the program in the future? Thanks again.

I have never updated my DXE since I got it... oh, over 8 years ago?  Can't remember.  I don't see why you'd ever need to update it as long as it works, it's not a PC that needs to have the latest apps and programs installed on it.

You can avoid having to reverse servos by checking their function with a servo tester or the radio system itself before you mechanically connect them to the rudder.  Changing the Fwd/Rev of the motor is as simple as swapping around the leads from the ESC.
