What boiler?
« on: August 01, 2025, 01:13:00 pm »

Does anyone recognize this boiler? It was recently given to me without any information. On top just by the steam valve is 88 followed by something that is under the steam valve bush. The safety valve is free as it the engine. The boiler was full of clean water when I received it. The screw in the end is 2BA. The next thing is to get it tested, I am in north Kent, any suggestions?

Well the main boiler looks well made and silver soldered, and is of the mammon style, the steam valve is a later addition (replacing what would have been there), yuk hate the 2 BA cheese head (look at mamod boilers and you will get the idea)
And (sorry)looking at the end of the boiler where the stay comes through, although the boiler should not need a stays as its PSI will be about 25-30 (tops) so to be honest it is a well engineered boiler...............however (as always) it looks to me as if the stay has leaked and been blobbed with soft solder !!
It should be under the 3 bar rule, but personally I would have a test, just for your own benefit
Hope some of this helps

Very helpful, thank you. The nut for the stay is silver soldered, and was obviously done at the same time as the bush for that BA screw. The other end of the stay fixes onto the boiler support structure.

Any (possibly 3) water tubes under the boiler?

No, just the burner tray.
