hi there if its the bow or stern fender you could use a car fan belt or car cam shaft belt as the both have teeth in them. So cut it to lengt and glue to the boat teeth side out. O0 john

What style are you looking for?

I have one that replaces the bow fender for the Tito Neri.  :)
And am working on a slightyly larger piece that tapers from 63.5mm(2.5") down to 19mm(3/4")

Hy Fellas, and of course you Umi,
Thanks for the input, I think I will be looking at the cam belt option, its the bow fender for the Nangee that I want to finish, so I need that square block type look. My other tugs have either rope or tyre fenders doing the job, the Nangee is a bit different as it is a newer build.
Umi I have always liked the work that you do with your models, and its nice to see you having an input on the Mayhem site.
Once again
Many thanks

Bosum
i use foam rubber that i picked up at a model aircraft rally ,comes in different densitys and colours
also a rubber protective mat that they use on the docks ,acts as a none slip matting for the trailers and loads /pallets.
If you want some of the latter let me know  10 x 5 inch sheets half inch thick grainy but dense.

Thanks for the offer of the rubber mat, thats very kind of you. I will have a look around the docks at Newport, see what I can find, I think I know the stuff you mean, but cant remember where I saw it. If I cant get any I will get back to you if thats ok.
Many Thanks

I used cam belt on my Nangee, super glue holds it well, just sand any paint off and stick direct to fibre glass. i use my tug for what it is supposed to be , tugging and pushing, never had a problem with the cam belt. It cuts easily with a stanley knife, just take your time.

I used 'O'ring section from an old 'O'ring kit mounted on a thick mouse mat to get the look I wanted and the flexibility I needed to push against a 5 1/2 tonne model ship

Hy Guys.
Thanks for the replies, could,nt find any of that rubber mat down at the docks, quite fancy the cam belt idea, and then again I like the look of catengineman,s O ring set up. Will take a look in my local garage tomorrow, Andy I will have to pop down to Cold Knap one day and have a look at your Nangee, went there a few times in the summer, but there were no tugs.
Many Thanks

Here are the first two custom castings, for a client in Washington State, of
the larger bow fender.

The rubber fender for the Tito Neri is shown below them.

And an image with the Tito Neri fender bent over itself.

For the bow fender on a 1:50 scratch-built Yorkshireman. Take two thicknesses of rubber sheet - in this case 1/16th and 1/8th - and glue together. Cut required outline of fender and then mark on scale thicknesses of individual fender blocks. Very carefully cut though thicker rubber without touching thinner sheet. Bend around bow and glue to same. Outer rubber opens up to simulate rubber blocks. The result has survived the knocks of 15 years use.

     ...Hi Guys...
A very handy item for rubbing strakes is to use Hatch Sealing Tape from a Ship Chandlers...

It is a medium foam with a sticky backing already on it..It comes in different Thicknesses & Widths...

It is also very handy for lining the stand for your boat to sit on a nice soft surface...
