Super detailed ''TSEKOA II'' Work in progress.
« on: April 10, 2006, 10:57:24 am »

Hi everyone, i'm a newbie to this site and to the world of model boating, and i'm loving every minute of it! Around 8 months ago i purchased my fifth model boat and it's my first atempt at a super detailed model. I wanted the model to have a number of working features like lights, smoke unit, water pump, bow thruster, and i have even made the radar screens lights up along with the dials.....oh and the laptop (Just need some graphic's to go on it now) so here are some photo's for you all to look at: (Hope you like what you see?)

That looks great - I have the same vessel in a somewhat the same state except for the details. I haven't decided if to follow the old color scheme or the new red/white one. The real Tsekoa is berthed (or was) a few miles from me and I managed to get a few photos of her.

Keep us informed of the progress,

Mike

Thanks! I have seen a different colour paintwork, lower deck line light pastel blue, then white above. If you look up: www.modelslipway.co.uk and you will find it in the gallery section, this is the colour i will be spraying mine in.
Why don't you post some pictures of your work on here, i would like to see what you have done!

Kind Regards: Voyager.

That's a fine looking model you have there. Model Slipway make some good kits at good scale methinks.

I've often thought which was the best way to complete a scale boat, to build completely then paint it or build and paint as you go along. I've tended to paint the main parts ie hull and superstructure as I've gone on.

What's most people's preferred way?

Yeah...i have notice that some people do just that, build a little, then paint a little. With the Tsekoa i like to bond plastic to plastic, rather than glue paint to paint...if you get my drift, it should make for a stronger model that will last. On the other hand the Flower Class is so complex and fiddly, i have to paint parts and then glue each one on as i go.

I think I may have to sell up here and move to England, if you guys can put up with me as this type of model is not available over here, in fact most shops over here have cheap plastis crap rtr things, put in the battery and go for it. No building needs to be done, wher from what I can see you blokes seem to have an abundance of models to choose from  half your luck,
Your are doing a great job on your build..

Any new pics of how your boat is going? Always liked this kit, seen a few completed ones and the large scale lets you go nuts on detail and by the looks of things your's is going to be a beaut'.

I was able to find some time to work on my Tsekoa, as my workload was delayed....thank you R.M. >:(
I have been working on the exhaust stacks, the kit versions are in white metal so the idea was to hollow them out, well after a disasterous atempt to drill them out :'( I decided to make them all out from evergreen plastic tubing, and the end result was a much cleaner version...ahhhh. The front escape hatch has had some attention to it in the form of hinges, handles, and made to be removable as this will hide the on/off switch. The side boxes that are just left of the doors had to be made from scratch, the kit versions are just square blocks of metal with no detailing, so my version was built from evergreen plasticard, and the rivets made from sequin pins cut down to size. The mast detail is almost finished now, just added the side cables and grab handle. The roof has had some supports fitted to the top and below edge, not that you going to see it unless you crouch down..still it's there. The last thing which is not finished yet is rear drain pipe.

Finaly started work painting the hull, Halfords red oxide primer was used first, but sanding in between coats so as to get a nice smooth finish. I hunted around for 2/3mm masking tape for the water line, but after visiting five shop's i decided to try another idea ??? I masked of the red oxide primer, i then sprayed Halfords white primer for the water line, and when this was dry i overlapped with Tamiya masking tape keeping an exact 3mm overlap. Then after this was done i airbrushed Humbrol enamel #89 over the upper hull, i will give it two days to fully dry before applying a waterproof satin varnish to seal everything in.

I had heard that slipway were discontinueing this particular model, usually the way when they just start griowing on me..
Mercedes were the same

But if you get fed up wee it I have a shelf space for it.....(or will very soon)  Ken
