This from the "Mouldeans/Deans Marine" website. Note last paragraph. Small drawings/plans are available in some books such as Burts.

If you do locate a set, I'd love a copy!

Rick

H.M.S.? POLYPHEMUS 1/60TH SCALE.
Length? 1.271m? ? Beam? 203mm? Full plated hull with rounded underwater? section and trunk deck as part of the moulding.
For the modelller? who wishes to try something totally different on the water. This addition to our range of hulls is the one used by Mr J Hollis to win the national Championships in the U.k in 1988, and a gold Medal at the Model Engineers Exhibition. The mould was constructed by Mr Hollis from his own research for this very unusual model. She was designated a torpedo ram, best known in Victorian circles for all the wrong reasons. She was a well thought out and combat worthy design, with the awsome top speed in her day of 18 knots,? mainly for torpedo? attack and ramming. It is said that she inspired Jules Verne to include her in the original story of War of the Worlds

The only? known plans for this ship are held buy? the N.M.M

you have got it in one Rick, but trying to get hold of NMM is proving to be a difficult one............ and im told the cost will be worse! I was hoping someone had done her before and had some drawings. Otherwise it is HMS Kite I think.

Hi Rob,

I've not had dealings with the NMM for 25 years, when I got some photos from them. Even then they were expensive. I understand that now its an arm and a leg for a sheet of plans, so I always try the forums first - most modellers are happy to share what they have. I'd love to build "HMS Hood" - the pre-Dreadnought, not the battlecruiser - but I haven't even considered asking Greenwich the price of the plans. Good look with Polyphemus.

The last time I asked about copying plans from the NMM was three years ago for Boston Blenheim. They wanted ?11 search fee to get the plans from the archive, (I had the file number curtisy of the builders who still exist). ?15 P+P and the plans were ?35 each, as I would have liked a plan view, side view and the two plans of the wheel house this would have worked out expensive. I was chatting about theis to a friend of mine who enquired about HMS Hood the battlecruiser. these plans were ?110 each!!!! and I think he said about 6-8ft long.

Apparently the Boston Blenheim plans were amungst the cheepest.

NMM does appear to be the last resort. Apparently the prices since I asked have risen slightly.

Regards

Hi, I know John Hollis very well, he sailed for many years as a member of the Sheffield club before he started sailing racing dinghies ( and now at National level !).  I will give him a ring and see if he still has any i.fo, though I know he sold his original model and moulds to Ron Dean.  Might take a few days though as I think he is away for easter.

Rob

I think you'd be better emailing Dean's direct to be sure Ron sees your question. Saw him over the weekend and he was working like a one armed paper hanger :o

I don't think he spends a lot of time on the forum at the moment.

Cheers
