Correct location for 'KING PLANK'?
« on: January 07, 2008, 10:11:22 am »

 :) :-\
Hi Guys and a Happy New Year to you all.

I have a question for all you warship guys......

What is the correct location for the 'Centre (KING) plank on a warship deck.

a) should it be laid with it's own centre line located along the ships centre line?,

b) with one of it's long edges along the ship centre line?

I have read several articles, including that from Brian King, which describe the planking methodology as regards to margin planks, plank joggling and the 3 or 4 butt stagger, however, none have actually defined the exact location for the centre plank.

My gut feeling is that it should be as in (a) above otherwise the butts would end up asymmetrical... port and stbd.

What say you.

BTW I am about to start planking the decks of my 1/196 scale 'USS Missouri' with 4 butt stagger.

Best regards.

Hi AlexC,

As Frank Sinatra said. It went straight down the middle.

Hi again,

I knew that of course.

But Frank was a personal friend of mine. He said it, Bing sang it.

Bob  ;)

( Perhaps it don't go in the middle either. :( )
