Nah, too fat for a racer.  Behold the "Springalong" , from re-cycled CD rack that was just a convenient 9" longer than a regulation Springer. Just used front and rear profiles and added flat mid-section.  Shown with "Maid" top to show difference. Planning two standard 540, (not sure about Korts) and a streamlined look. Started yesterday, finished by spring or earlier if Santa is nice to me. ;)  Nice work Boatmad, what is the overall size of yours? Any ideas yet about the top ?

Hi,
Mine is standard size, except running gear.

Not started the top yet, will wait and see what 'springs' to mind.

Righto, some progress now:

here you will see the superstructure pretty much built, ready for filling and sanding, propshafts dry fitted with the secret new type of prop I am developing  O0

You will also see the radical location for the drive motors, transmission is top secret yet!

It is looking suitably brutal, I do like the big funnels, hints of a massive diesel below.  Are the korts mounted in a block of resin ?

Andy, the korts are 50mm jobbies.

Arrow, the mounts are indeed in a resin block, araldite mixed with microballons - seems to work ok.

Nope , micro-balloons are all air so resin wont be heavy. besides with the well known diving-when-under-power characteristics of the Springer are considered , it could be a good thing to be slightly tail heavy.

Hey Boatmad:  Big funnels need smoke, try some www.robotbirds.com smoke pellets(see www.putfile.com/Arrow5). Need metal tubes though, they burn very hot, will melt plastic !

Just waiting on the korts now I feel 50 mm is to big for mine so I'll go down a bit, purchased two 500 motors and other parts earlier 121 Squids and I've not finished yet. ???

Mr Andy, NEVER keep a total of the cost of your models - it'll scare the pants off you!

even more important - never, never, never tell swmbo the real cost!

And here we have a little progress at last on the drive train. Photo's show range of steering, the shaft end bearing, the steering linkages and lining up prior to glueing.

Looking good Ian, I'm still unable to continue, not for much longer I hope. O0
As for keeping tabs on cost I agree wholly, don't.

Great looking boat, but then again I am partial to kort nozzles.

What size propellers are you using.  They appear to be 45mm?

Keep up the good work!

I am trying a Raboesch 50mm prop in a robbe kort nozzle.  It seems that the 50mm prop may require fine tuning to ensure it does not bind.  I am afraid I may have to run the grinder around the blades to get the correct fit after the final installation. But, while the rudder tube is still loose, there is no binding and it turns fine.

I like your use of micro-ballons to build up around the rudder tube. I'm thinking about doing the same with some sort of removable form.  ;)

Do you have any idea what kind of motor you will use for power?  I tried the Titan 550 1:1 turning a Graupner 50mm 4-blade in a nozzle on my last boat. It moves pretty good but the motor will get quite warm. There is no easy way to cool the motor because of the kort nozzle.  :'(

Keep up the good work!

Hi andy....have you thought of trying to cool the motors by using a seperate water pump.....water pick up can be from anywhere under water and can continue to run even when stopped........just a thought
