Hopefully the crew are found as it is FREEZING out there
I passed the area about the time it went down and the
temp. was -3. The air sea rescue helicopters were sent back
due to thick fog.
As stavros says our hearts go out to the family.

I'm afraid in seas of those temperatures life expectancies if you are in the water and unprotected is only a matter of minutes.  If they got into a life raft they are in with a chance.

I can't begin to imagine what this does to a family especially at this time of year and suddenly there are empty places at the dinner table.

What can you say?
Just another job on a river and 3 men wont ever come home.
I feel for the families, when I was working on the Clyde I used to drive past the old Cory Tugs on my way to and from work, and know an ex Chief Engineer from those days.

People involved with the missing crew read sites like this and no doubt our sympathies although well meaning may still be upsetting, can we hold discussion until firm news is released....please?

Hats off!...........................................

Wee Norry is a personal friend of some of the men involved and as in constant contact with the scottish tug towage scene, I will leave any updates firmly in the hands of someone who will keep us in touch, but without any embellishment...thank you.

Joan McAlpine wrote a fitting article in the Sunday Times, seven columns on the Clyde tugs and their work in peace and war, but her final paragraph is so apt...   "Stephen Humphreys, the young skipper of the Flying Phantom, was a Greenock tugmaster from the same stock. Like his crew, he did a vital job allowing commerce to proceed efficently and ensuring our ports are safe. Friends told reporters he was offered command of bigger, more glamorous vessels, but turned them down because he loved tugboats. It is fitting that we all pay tribute to that devotion today".   Well said madam.

I got a text over the holiday.
Steve was also a member of the Greenock Model Boat Club.
He will be sorely missed.

I was in Clydebank yesterday & went down to the Riverside to see how things were going regarding the salvage of "FLYING PHANTOM"...

The tug had been rolled upright & was being prepared for lifting & moving onto the bank for pumping out...

Here is a picture of the scene... A Very Sad Sight Indeed...

Probably need to start a new topic here but just how do you go about recovering a stricken vessel, Flying Phantom, MSC Napoli etc. If it's sunk and has a holes hull, how do you pump it out?
