Right me has decided I need the feel for speed,or in other words I want a play thingy!!!!1
Seriously what would you guys reccomend as a fun boat rtr with the minimal of setting up and running in,easy to start with low maintanace, and yes the numbers for next weeks lottery would be handy!!!!
another stipulation is it has got to be reasonably cheap

Hi Stavros,

this is (or hopefully can be) a very interesting question.

This year, 2007, I have not competed in any events, however, I own three completed boats, with two "on the blocks". Complete boats are my Panther FSRO boat, the Miami OMRA boat and my play boat, the Mirage 2.

Out of all of them, I have had the most running hours out of my Prestwich Mirage 2FSRV, which I bought off ebay for 20 quid. It is a Mirage 2 with an SC61 engine, not that fast, the engine is not powerful, but it has done many, many hours this last year. I am using it to get my eye in for the coming season.

My other boats are much faster, but have not so far proven to be so much pound for pound fun.

I think it fair to say that the Mirage I own is one of these models that you do not really care about, but just keeps on going.

So Stavros, in anwser to your question, I would advise a secondhand boat where someone has it all set up and ready for you, or a race boat second hand. I am not 100% that you need a monster engine for your use..

Hi Stavros,

The biggest bit of advice I can give you, is not to be tempted into buying a styrene hull of any make.

Glass or ply is the only option.

Styrene appears to be OK with electric power, even with monster brushless motors equivalent to IC power. So it must be a vibration thing.  I have had four various styrene hulls and they all started to crack up within a few hours running.

Stavros,

Can you give us a bit more of an indication on what you are looking for?

Classic powerboat, Speed Boat, Omra boat, Hydro, RTR play thing, Size, budget etc.

What really takes your fancy? I started with some of the Kyosho boats. Fairly straight forward to assemble. Run well and a good intro.

I know of a few petrol boats for sale, complete and ready to run?

Regards

Stavros,

I know of a couple of RTR ex OMRA boats for sales in the price range? Petrols, all set up?

If not have a look at the Ripmax website, they have a few nearlt RTR ic boats, complete excluding electrics. Good for a starter.

PM me if you are interested in the petrols.

well i would go with glenn + simon's advice second hand is the way to go.
the thing is with a brand new petrol you are looking at about £800 to build one complete,
and second hand its worth £250-£300 even in very good condition.
so to sum it up brand new = setting the motor and hardware up (this can be soul destroying), and very expensive. >>:-(
second hand = allready set up tuned and a hell of a lot cheaper. ;D O0

hope that helped a little...........Pete
