What size motor for a heavy twin prop boat?
« on: December 31, 2007, 06:49:15 pm »

Hi all,  first post so be kind to me!

I'm building a bait boat for fishing which is heavy and not particularly streamlined!  It will displace about 6kg.  I'm going for the twin prop option,  so I'm wondering if 360s will be enough to give me reasonable speed?  I have to balance speed against battery life,  and I don't want to use twin 540 motors if they aren't necessary.

I'm using 40mm props.

Are there any guidelines to what size motors I should go for?

3:1 Geared 550's on 6 volts or 6:1 Geared 550's on 12 volts.
As sold by Model Slipway.
