Wide Ply
« on: November 18, 2007, 09:11:01 pm »

Hi All  O0
Looking for a place that can supply 1/16 ply more than a foot wide( 300mm ?). Seems to be supplied  up to that width only..

Don't need much length about 2 feet (600mm)?

Reason I want the grain to run up and down on the build part.

Hi Seapray, try www.modellersmate.co.uk/wood.htm,  part no. 5521118, they list 1270x1270x1.5mm ply @ £22.49 / sheet. Not cheap but might be worth it to lay into stock.
cheers

I have a local source of Russian Birch ply (WBP) at very reasonable prices. I recently bought a sheet 5' x 5' for about twelve quid, and I'm sure that sizes go lower and higher. Google "Fitchett and Wollacott" - they're in Nottingham.

hoooo yeeee Henry Martin what size bulwarks are you going to make; ones for the real ship or are you planning on having a few goes at making them  ;)

The other thing I forgot to mention is, if, after soaking the ply, that if the plywood is still too stiff to bend around the bow, you could go down to 1/64 and laminate one piece on top of the other and in hindsight this may be an easier way of doing it.  But, as they say, the choice is yours.

Isn't wood got dear !!!  :(

I'll take a stroll down to the metalshop Monday and have a word with the lads try and scrounge some brazing rod(s)
