Where did you get the sail material and what is it? They're certainly striking ;D

When I bought the yacht second hand, the guy included a second set of sails he had made himself, they have a type of plasticky feel to them, and are not flimsy like the sails on the Victoria - not been able to work out the actual material used as yet.

The guy had affixed some black numbers and letters which I pulled off, and replaced with all the multi coloured shapes cut out from self adhesive dacron sail material purchased from sailsetc.com

The scarymovie face, was a vinyl decal purchased on Ebay - attracts people to the lakeside when they see it !!!

Really useful to have bright colours when the yacht is a good 100 to 150 yards plus away  :D

I have never built or sailed a yacht, as yet. I am wondering what to get as my first. Do you recommend the "Comtesse"?

Roger, it's always a good idea to find out what others in your area might be sailing. (I had it easy - there was nobody sailing anything in my area ::) ) That way you get the benefit of more first hand experience and maybe some competition if you like that aspect.
The Comtesse is a good sports boat that's easy to put together. Its hull/deck is virtually identical to my Graupner Saphir, which is maybe a little racier due to its keel design.
If I remember correctly, in France there are several smaller designs that are popular - I think it's called Mini 65 and/or RG65- which eases the problems of transport. However, the "International One Metre" is probably the most universally recognised but they are on the pricy side.

Thanks, Martin. Nobody in my Club uses sails (most of them prefer to dash around, frenetically with multi-hulls). I am off to the International Model Exhibition in Paris on Friday and so I hope to pick up some advice and maybe a kit while there.

Honest, my wife has let me off the leash for 3 days...in Paris!

I hope to take a few pics for Mayhem.

France seems to be home to the multicoque enthusiast. There must be something in the French soul that enjoys seeing inverted boats in the middle of the lake ::)

Just one of them has always seemed enough to me.

Interesting photo's

During a MB forum discusion about this boat, it was stated that they did not have a back stay. All three in the photo's have, as did the one I was involved with.

Are there perhaps two versions of this yacht? (as in a mk11)

It looks like an add on. The fairly recently built one on http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=478851 doesn't seem to have one.

Most Comtesses have one added, to be able to adjust the mast rake (backwards) to enhance performance (and looks).

The last post in the link above proves the usefulness of the bulb keel option.

The modified Comtesse in the Netherlands is giving the Saphirs a run for their money....

Regards, Jan.

Well that would not be a problem as they talk about everyone else now so a bit more ammo would not hurt...

The lakes in sunny North Somerset, Clevedon to be precise...........The marine lake is quite big, with the main River Severn in the background

We've got a small club of 30 members now operating in this neck of the woods.
