Fuses and switch
« on: January 05, 2008, 08:38:42 pm »

I am about to fit my first RC gear into a boat but I have a couple of queries. Using Ghost's diagrams I need to fit fuses, most people seem to go for the car type fuses, so, can you buy the single holders to take the fuse or do you have to cobble something up.  In Ghost's diagrams there is no switch, if BEC is used do you put the isolating switch on the positive cable that goes to the battery or does it need to be a switch that switches both positive and negative.   I will stop asking daft questions eventually, I hope  :embarrassed:

For the fuse, cut positive wire and connect spade connectors. These will then take a spade type car fuse. O0

You only need to switch the positive.

Has it not got a switch ?

Alan,
Which ESC are you using, they usually come with the switch or at least the leads?

Alan they come with the switch fitted, you just need to connect battery and motor connections.
What motor(s) you using with this?

                  ...Hi Guys...

I use the 4 circuit fuse holder that you can buy in a car accessories shop for around a fiver...

I wire all the positive leads from each motor, bow thruster, winch etc through the fuse box which is positioned in a handy place for fitting the fuses...

When travelling to a show or just for a sail all the fuses are removed so that all the circuits are dead.

To switch the power on...All I do is put the fuses in & away you go...When finished, Remove fuses..

This way there is no power leakage from the batteries during storage...

     ...Best Regards...Norry...

The Boat is the Graemsey and I have two 555 motors to go in it. I have also purchased (arrived yesterday) two 6volt 4ah batteries, the reason for the two batteries is that the aperture is a bit on the tight side and if the motors don't run very well on 6volts I can couple them up to give 12 volts

The 555's should be fine on 12 volts if you have props about 40 mm.

I have ordered two 40mm 3 bladed brass props along with the ESC as I didn't like the white metal ones that came with the kit, I also ordered quite a bit of other gear as I am building one of those springer tugs so I can have a play at the pond while the Graemsey is being built, wife had a fit when she saw the bill, bit costly when you are just starting as you dont have all them boxes with loads of spare bits in

I use car fuses on my models, but I just cut the wire and fix 2 shielded spade terminals, they fit to the fuse directly
Cheers

I am doing a catch up on all missed topics. Still we are on the same wavelength.
