Advice on power...
« on: February 07, 2008, 07:07:45 pm »

Hi,

I have a small trent class life boat from model slipway, it is 500mm long and 180 wide. I have installed 2x M2 prop shafts with 30mm 3blade plastic props. They are run by 2 MFA torpedo 400 motors via an mtroniks viper 15 ESP and a 6 cell 2000mAh battery pack.

My problem is that the plastic props have broken, got damaged in the car and lost a blade or two on the water. Also she is slightly slower then I had hoped.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of brass props for M2 shafts?

Also i have now wired one motor the opposite way around so would therefore need one RH and one LH prop, is this correct for a twin screw boat?

Is there any way i can get more power out of this set up? The battery lasts a long time so more jucy motors could be an option but would i gain anything with out changing the battery?

Thanks for any advice, Guy

I had a 3 bladed brass prop made to fit an unusual size shaft a few years back. This was done for me by a company called SHG.
Hope this helps

Hi Guy, my 400 motors run on 7.2v
I am also making the George Turner MTB which he reckons will run well on the Graupner speed 400 motor with a 7.2v 2000mAh battery and a 2 blade 25mm prop.
The MTB is more or less the same size as your lifeboat.,
Dont know if this helps. :-\
