I have started to buy materials to construct Vic Smeed's "Star Baby" R/C yacht. The plan calls for the hull to be ideally covered in 1mm Ply, but as an alternative, to use 1/32" or 1/16". As 1mm ply seems to be difficult to come by (or do you know different) , I am contemplating using one of the alternatives. Before I buy, I am curious to know what the advantages and disadvantages of each thickness may be. For example : thicker means stronger but heavier and visa versa, will the buoyancy and handleability be affected?, would the thicker material be safer for an inexperienced captain. What does the "team" think??. Thanks. Barrie.
